The Role
Found the experience very enjoyable and very, very educational.
The team I worked with at Deloitte's Belfast Digital Studio really made me feel welcome, and I hugely appreciated it. I feared I'd be treated like an annoying intern, but a number of colleagues consistently checked that i had real work to do and made sure I was keeping up to date.
Again, the team not only gave me real work to do but made sure I knew what i was doing and kept me up to date.
There were a few rare occasions when I felt like I didn't have enough to do, but that was always soon rectified and for the most part I had plenty to keep me busy.
I had access to the git repository for a couple of real projects the team was working on and I got to contribute my own work, along with being included in company meetings which required my input and testing software before it went live in the real world.
I learned a great deal about web development, including CSS, HTML and JavaScript. I also learned how to use real life universal development tools, like git version control and workflow control using a Kanban board, and these are skills I will use for the rest of my professional life.
The Company
I felt the atmosphere was perfect - there was a relaxed atmosphere, but a productive one, with plenty of chat and friendly collaboration between the various teams.
I felt it was very well organised, I was promptly introduced to my fellow interns and my new colleagues, and i received my mac quickly and had help setting it up.
They invested their time and money, and the time of their employees. I greatly appreciated the fact that I was paid well for learning in a real, industrial environment, and all the help I received while doing so.
Company Parties/Events
Above 25 days holiday
I decided that i wanted to return to Deloitte for my year in placement in 2016, and I was ecstatic when, after interview, I was invited to come back. i hope to seek employment with Deloitte in the future.
The Culture
Yes, my fellow interns were from the same university as me, and we quickly made friends and we still are to this day. My colleagues were all very friendly and welcoming, and I couldn't have hoped for as better group of people to work with.
Belfast, I feel, is decently priced for a city of its size.
Belfast has a lovely nightlife scene.
Myself and my fellow interns were invited to the company social day which involved a meal and a concert. We were also invited to meals on other occasions at restaurants outside the company.
