About You
It was really fun in the insight as I was just shadowing a more senior individual getting to learn what they do everyday, and what they would expect me to do if I was working there. It was definitely worth the experience and time and now I get a better feel whether I want to work in the IT industry.
I value my time at the company but I didn't feel I was very valued as my main objective there was to learn rather than contribute, so it seems like I didn't really contribute much to the company. The people there are very friendly so didn't make me feel bad in any way.
I received lots of guidance and support when I was shadowing a more experience person, he gave me some simple tasks to do so I can learn more with a hands on experience. I feel the person was very friendly and really went out of his way to help me learn and gave me tips on how to make a successful application.
Time management were definitely one of the skills that benefited me the most for me degree, It helped me structure my revision properly so I wasn't behind on any of my work and felt like I was a lot more efficient than before. Also improved my team working skills in one of my group work projects at university as I felt more comfortable on how to handle it in groups, something that I've never been used to before.
The Company
The structure of the insight itself didn't seem too great, it felt like I was just told to do things on the spot rather than being planned, and it would have been better if I was told of a plan rather than just taking things as they go but I still very much enjoyed my time there.
The general atmosphere was that everyone was very friendly and willing to help on any problems that I was stuck on, seeing as I was very inexperienced and I was even invited on some dinners they were planning. This is definitely a place that I would consider working at in the future.
It definitely helped me understand whether would want to work with the company, but I didn't really get to learn what they company really does fro an experienced employee as I was not told any of his work. He just gave me simple tasks to handle but I would want a full time role after this experience.
Everything Else
I was reimbursed for my travel expenses but I wasn't paid. I was fine with this though, seeing as my main objective was to learn/shadow a more senior person so I didn't feel like I contributed enough to get paid for my work. They were willing to pay me for all expenses incurred during this time.
There were many great opportunities to meet and network with other people. when I first got there I was introduced to a team straight away and everyone was really friendly and willing to introduce me to other people. It felt a lot friendly than other places I've been to and wouldn't hesitate in doing this again.
I have found out what they employees were doing out side of work. They have many dinners together as a social event and even go on things like rock climbing as an event together or go out on a weekend to experience the nightlife of the city. I even went to a few of the dinners and enjoyed it very much!
All in all yes I would definitely investing some time in this insight as it gives you an idea whether you want to work in the IT industry. Most people seem to want to work in the IT industry with no experience and when they start, it seems they start regretting getting a job there, so an insight will really help them decide.
