The Role
The opportunity to develop my IT skills and involve myself in a number of different projects.
Some colleagues gave me challenging and very interesting work, whilst other colleagues gave me more simple tasks, although I appreciate that this was probably for time-saving purposes.
The line manager system is very good and he provided frequent and very useful feedback.
Varied week to week. On some days I was incredibly busy but during lag-times I would have to ask around quite a lot to find work.
Again, this depended on the project manager giving me the work.
I greatly valued the opportunities to develop my GIS, Excel, modelling and report-writing skills, which have increased my confidence in some of my degree coursework.
The Company
Busy but mostly relaxed. My team was very sociable.
Very well organised, I knew the logistics of my first day well in advance, for example.
I was trained thoroughly in a number of software programs. I feel as though the company did a decent job of recognising my placement partly as an opportunity for me to develop my skills.
Flexi Time
Company Parties/Events
Working from home
They did a good job advertising the potential career paths within the company, but only really focused on the work of the team I had joined.
The Culture
There were no other placement students. However the team frequently organised fun outings such as pub trips and meals.
I lived locally, so this wasn't an issue.
It was good.
Yes.
