    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I was working as a marketing assistant in a very section of the business. You really get to do a wide range of marketing activities and take on a lot of responsibility throughout the year. I thoroughly enjoyed my year working at 3M; there are plenty of social events to get involved in as well as a 3M Football team for the lads of the company.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Very much so. I was pretty much the only marketer on my team so got a lot of say in the businesses marketing activities. Your managers often had a large part in choosing you for the position and so obviously trust you with a range of jobs. I never felt like an intern. You genuinely are a valued part of the team.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Not a huge amount of support to be honest but I never felt like it was a huge problem. Help was always on hand if you asked for it from colleagues in different businesses sitting near you.

    3/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • There's periods where you aren't overly busy and periods where you barely look up from your desk. 3M are quite keen as a whole on giving placement students a few big projects to work on when possible.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • My manager was incredibly good at getting me involved in client meetings and key decisions. I genuinely felt appreciated and valued and my ideas taken on board at the very least.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • There are copious amounts of training days offered at 3M. From learning how to use the various marketing/finance etc. systems to writing and time management courses. The placement year and graduate program is constantly being improved on there with things to keep you busy on outside of the business group you work in. Theres a reason so many managers there are previous placement students

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Everyone got on incredibly well and most were good friends outside the office. Everyone is overly friendly to the placement years especially as they are always pushing meetings around to help you.

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Very well. Many training days on offer and the team around settling you in over the year are very good and look to be constantly improving.

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Lots of training on offer as well as some compulsory as mentioned before.

    3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    Sports and Social Club

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Financial Bonus

    Company Parties/Events

    Working from home

    Travel loan

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The future employment prospects are very good. Many of the managers and senior team leaders were once placement students. The company is constantly moving personnel around and looking for people to shine and move up the ladder.

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes. There was a specific 3M social group that organised outings. The placement students all got on incredibly well too.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Not great. Reading is close to london prices. Rent around £4000-5500 a year (university digs)

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Nothing in Bracknell. In Reading there are a few big clubs but not amazing. Close to london though so fairly easy to just go there instead

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Football, cycling and charity days were the ones i got involved in or heard about.
