    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I had a fantastic experience at Spring Into Deloitte as I was given a thorough insight into the company and all the service lines were fully explained by the employees. We were also given the opportunity to look at case studies relating to each service line to get a taste of exactly what it is like to work as a Auditor/Consultant etc. This was followed by a chance to network with current employees who were extremely friendly.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • It is only a two day insight program but nevertheless they did a fantastic job in valuing us! The workers were very friendly and were always open to answering questions and sharing their experience. There was a networking dinner after the first day where we had the opportunity to mingle with the employees who were very approachable even though it was after their working hours.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • As a first year undergraduate, I was clueless on what it is like working for an accountancy firm but we were given a lot of guidance and advice on how to be successful when applying and giving interviews. We were also given the opportunity to have a mock interview with a trained graduate interviewer who gave detailed feedback on what went well and how to improve as well as her email address if we had any further queries. This was really appreciated as I don't have much experience with interviews so I really benefited from the mock and the advice.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • We looked through case studies relating to each service line which involved numerical analysis and a small group presentation at the end. The skills I developed in this exercise will definitely assist me in my degree as we are always required to analyse case studies and working together as group is highly demanded nowadays. Regarding the information we received, like previously mentioned it was extremely thorough and gave an invaluable insight into the firm.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • The two day event was very well structured. We covered a range of activities in a short period of time. There was always time to ask questions and network as well as mingle with other students and share idea. We were given an information booklet which covered everything that was to happen in the two days so we knew what to expect.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • The atmosphere was extremely friendly. I expected it to be very serious for a firm like Deloitte but the employees and graduate recruiters were very approachable. Even the networking dinner was more informal than I had expected which made me feel better about working for such a firm.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company definitely invested a lot in us. We had a public speaker come in and give us a talk on the importance of communication in business and how we could improve our current communication skills to succeed in a competitive business environment. This was very impressive as they were investing in and we don't even work for them! It just indicates how much they would actually invest in you if you are their employee.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • The employees gave an insight of what their day to day working life involves and what they like/dislike the most about their work. This, alongside the opportunity to work through a range of case studies gave an idea of what it is like to have a full time role with the company. This was very useful as I have never had a full time job before so didn't really know what it would entail.

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • The insight was very useful as previously I had a very different perception of what the company culture would be like for a big firm like Deloitte. The insight gave me a real idea of how friendly the culture actually is and that there is always support so you aren't left alone. There is a 'buddy' system where you are paired with an experienced employee when you join so you always have someone to guide you.

    4/5

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • There was a lot of information given to us on the range of services Deloitte provide to see which one would match our skill set. Even though this was related to Deloitte, other firms also provide similar services so was useful when I came to picking which company I would like to do a summer internship or graduate scheme at and the qualities they look for in an ideal candidate.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • It was only a two day insight which was unpaid but our travel expenses were reimbursed.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • We were given plenty of opportunities to network with employees from all the service lines throughout the two days. The employees would come sit with us on our tables and share their experience of working with Deloitte and whether they would recommend it to us. We also had the opportunity to network at lunchtimes and our social dinner event. The graduate recruiters were also there so we could ask them questions regarding applications etc.

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • The networking/ social event opportunities were really beneficial. As it was only a two day event, I didn't expect there to be many chances to socialize with employees or other students but I was impressed by how much they managed to fit in such a short period of time. I feel like I was able to ask all the questions I had and they showed a genuine interest in us.

    4/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • The employees gave us some information on what activities we can participate in outside of work. They said that they have a range from fundraising/ volunteering opportunities to annual balls. However we didn't really get a lot of detail on them which is understandable as it was a short event and they focused mainly on services provided by Deloitte and the application processes etc.

    3/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • Definitely! I am very happy I chose to take this opportunity as I benefited a lot from it and would want others to make the most of a very good program. I got a genuine insight and didn't feel like they were just trying to sell themselves to us. The practice mock interview was extremely useful, which many other firms do not provide.
