The Role
My placement was very enjoyable and insightful. Being involved in various tasks helped to develop my confidence and out all my acquired university into first hand experience.
Efforts in completing a task were always highly recognised by all my colleagues regardless of how small or important the task was. The strong culture in each department allowed me to feel part of supporting team. Furthermore, due to the variety of tasks I supported in I felt very responsible and essential in my department.
All the managers and supervisors, regardless of being in different departments, were always willing to help and provide guidance with any queries. They were also always willing to provide positive feedback to help during my placement year.
Being a fast past industry meant being busy at all times including on shut down periods, which I believe was one of the major benefits working at Faureica as you would never have to worry about not having something to do.
Working at Faurecia, you are not treated as a student but a work colleague. Other than day to day tasks you are given important responsibilities that failure to completion could of had impacts on the functioning of the business. Although, you are giving high responsbilities there is always support available if needed.
Due to the amount of tasks and deadlines needed to be met, I developed vital organisational and time management skills that I will be able to use not only for my final year at university but also in my future career. Most importantly working for a large organisation with a continuos improvement mindset, have provided me with the opportunity to work with various technical systems.
The Company
The atmosphere was always engaging and delightful. Even during busy times the enthusiasm to complete tasks did not fade due to the positive energy in the office.
The turnover in managers led to various day to day tasks being lost during the changes. All placement handover were dependent on the students. Therefore, I would recommend the company work creating a handbook with all the protocols expected from the company by the students to prevent the loss of tasks.
During the implementation of new systems onsite, training support was provided to students that would be involved in using these systems.
Students which have completed a placement year with Faurecia are given the opportunity of once graduating, to complete a graduate scheme in any of the 34 countries Faurecia is based in. This is referred to as the VIE scheme.
The Culture
The social scene between students and colleagues were really good due to the strong relationships created at work.
Unfortunately, as I commuted from London to Banbury I have little experience with the cost of living and socialising. Nevertheless, speaking to my colleagues on a daily basis they advised the cost of living was satisfactory, compared to London especially.
The Church House and the Old Auctioneer were the most recommended during my placement.
I was able to get involved in student fairs outside of work however, I would of liked to be involved in more activities in the other sites.
