The Role
Really enjoyed my placement with Mercer, the work was challenging sometimes, but this made it a lot more interesting.
Everyone was really friendly and welcoming, and felt part of the team as soon as I started.
The support was excellent. I was assigned a buddy who helped with my day to day tasks and was very helpful, but also everyone in the office answered any questions I had. Mercer seems to really invest in their employees.
There was always something I had to do. The group project was really good as when I had completed tasks in the office I could always work on that, so I was never bored or out of work.
I was given quite a bit of responsibility which was gradually increased throughout the internship. I was responsible for completing calculations and funding updates, and even though everything was peer reviewed before issuing, I had to make sure that what I was sending out was correct as it was confidential information.
The skills I have learnt from this experience are ones that I will use for the rest of my life. I feel that I have gained relevant skills to be able to start a career within Actuary work. It has also helped me with skills I can use to assist with my degree, for example more confidence in my presenting skills.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office was always friendly and I liked the way everyone helped each other.
The overall organisation of the internship was really good. We were well informed about what was happening and always had a point of contact for any information we needed.
Mercer seems to really invest in their summer interns. They offered good informative presentations which helped with our development. Catch up meetings with feedback on my performance from members of the team, with the team leader was really useful.

Company Parties/Events
Due to how they invest in the employees and the friendly atmosphere future employment with Mercer is very appealing.
The Culture
Lunch time drinks on a friday and a few social events were organised like badminton and a treasure hunt. I had a welcoming lunch when I started which was a good way of getting to know everyone.
I commuted in which was quite expensive but cheaper than living in Windsor. Socialising was average priced.
I never got to experience the nightlife in Windsor because of commuting everyday from quite far. But there were a few nice pub/restaurants around that were nice to have lunch/after work drinks in.
There was a treasure hunt called the Windsor Challenge organised by people in the office and there was also a badminton match. Friday drinks and lunch was a regular event.
