The Role
The vacation scheme was a fantastic experience, and I feel we had just the right mixture of lectures and real work in our departments. The socials were also a great way to get to know the other students and the current trainees in an informal setting.
Everyone from the partners to the trainees was very approachable and willing to help if I had any questions.
My principals were always contactable if I had any questions of difficulties with a task set, and both went to great legnths to explain the structure of each deal they gave me work on, even if my contribution was only small and did not require such in depth knowledge.
I have been consistently kept occupied but have never felt to pressurised by any deadlines set.
I was given a range of tasks which were checked over by my principals before being sent to clients. Of course, given the nature of the placement, direct contact with clients was not feasible.
The main benefit I have derived over the 4 weeks is the vast improvement in my knowledge of how companies structure their deals and arrange their finances, which will be crucial in my future career as a solicitor and will enable me to approach my final year of studies at University from a much more practically relevant perspective. The banking trainee sessions were particularly useful in this respect.
The Company
All the lawyers were friendly and upbeat, but also took their work very seriously.
The mixture of lectures and workshops, as well as real work, was well struck. The lectures on the different practice areas were particularly useful in giving us an insight into departments which we would not have an opportunity to sit in ourselves.
We had a number of workshops and a client pitch which were highly informative, and we were able to attend the trainee sessions and use the Know How on the intranet. Regular oppotunities for feedback and appraisals were also useful in this respect.

Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Healthcare from home
This depends on the Training Contract interview taking place next week.
The Culture
Each of the vacation scheme students got on very well with one another, and very enjoyed the twice-weekly social events held for us.
The prices were as to be expected for central London
The bars in the surrounding area were good for a post-work drink with the other vacation scheme students
There were many sporting events available and there were social events organised twice a week.
