The Role
Interesting work, help was available when I needed it but also I was trusted to get on with things alone.
Especially towards the end of the placement, I felt useful as people would come and ask me to do things, rather than me asking if there was any work I could help with.
My supervisor wasn't always in the office, but he was very supportive when he was, and I felt I could always ask for help or advice from others in the office anyway.
Mostly busy enough, but occasionally there were slow days.
Nothing major, but there was no-one checking my work over my shoulder - I was trusted to do things well.
Good chance to improve people skills, learn about Lean and VSM and improve IT skills.
The Company
Mostly friendly and cheerful, but a bit of tension between a few people at some points.
Plenty of induction, training, tours and visits. Could maybe have had some projects planned for placement students before they arrived.
Plenty of training, events for interns and tours to see other areas of the business. Comprehensive on-boarding program.
Flexi Time
Subsidised/Company Gym
National Travel
Very appealing, I'd love to go back for further internship and maybe grad scheme.
The Culture
Yes, the Apprentice Association in Bristol are very active, although I understand activities tend to drop off a bit after the summer interns leave.
Bristol is very expensive compared to the midlands, even the student areas, but it is also much nicer than Coventry, so possibly still good value for money.
Lot's of options, but mainly in Clifton - I lived in Filton and to get between the two it's a bus into town, then a 20 minute walk back out the other side.
The AA held a 'Summer of Sport' and lots of social events. Interns also organised their own social activities. Opportunities to get involved in outreach activities too.
