The Role
The job was very good, however there was a lot of administration work that had to be done. This became very repetitive, but the projects within my job made it more interesting.
We worked as a global team, and my colleague and I ran the programme by ourselves throughout the internship. Our work was appreciated by all team globally.
Management are very good at giving guidance and support. They adopt a very open policy which allow us to feel free to speak to anyone and voice our opinion and ask questions when we are in doubt, this obviously motivates us to learn and experience more throughout the internship. However working for a global team and being remotely managed did mean that support and guidance was limited.
Very busy, but that's what work is about. A lot of meetings, sometimes either very late or very early, a lot of e-mails, but Intel does give you the opportunity and encourage you to do some personal development, or even socialise, its up to you and obviously how you manage your time.
There was a lot of responsibility, running the Corporate Card programme is already a lot of responsibility, and dealing with external suppliers on a day-to-day basis is already a lot of responsibility. Although you are only there for the year, they still involve you in many large projects which affect the way how the business is run, and a lot of the time you can help manage the project which is a great learning experience.
What I learnt at Intel will help me a lot. The work and the contacts will be of some help with final year project, and also all the skills and industry experience will hopefully help me in future jobs, whether it be finding the right job, choosing the industry that I want to go into, or using these transferable skills in any job that I do.
The Company
The general atmosphere in the office area that I worked in was quiet and not very sociable, however as an intern, you do have the opportunity to take part in events run by the other students, and other social events run by the Intel sports and social group. This gives you the opportunity to network with people from other departments.
Overall the placement was very well organised, however being remotely managed by a US manager did cause a few problems, as they were not clear about the placement requirements, for example performance feedback.
A lot, Intel is extremely good at developing you, and you have many opportunities to take these too. Not only were there internal courses, but there was also external courses which developed you even further. I even got the opportunity to develop a course for the programme that I was working on :)

With the current economic climate and graudate job markets, it would be difficult to say what the employment prospects are. But if any opportunities do come up, then I am sure I will consider it.
The Culture
Yes, very good social events organised.
Cost of living is very cheap for the area that we were based in, socialising was average.
It was good at times, very limited, but don't expect too much.
A lot of opportunities were available, it's good if you have a car as it's not easy to get around by bus. Swindon is close to London, Bristol, Bath and Oxford, so you can always travel out there. With the Intel social club, opportunities were always available.
