    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I enjoyed my time at JLR greatly due to the extent of responsibility I was given from an early stage and how welcoming my team and the wider function were. It was a truly great learning experience where I was given a lot of opportunities to prove myself and my ability.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • As I was given such a immense amount of responsibility from an early stage, I was seen as a valued member of the team. I was value greatly by my colleagues and the management team which made the integration processes easier. I was valued the same as the other 'analysts' in my function which was great as it provided me with great exposure and the ability to develop from experienced individuals.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • During my placement, I was supported by my manager greatly and she helped me to integrate into the team well. Furthermore, the management team endorse opportunities to learn and develop, not only within your department, but the wider department which gives you great exposure to the function and the business as a whole.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • It would vary on a daily basis, but there was not a day I was sitting around. If I finished all the 'operational' parts of my job early, I could concentrate on the project work that I was allocated. But as my duration at JLR increase, the responsibility also increase, which means I became more busy.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • From an early stage of my placement I was given great amount of responsibility which allowed me to integrate into the team swiftly and I was valued as a team member. It was also great to be dropped in the deep end from a early stage as it allowed me to learn about the role and business quicker.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I think that my placement has developed me to a large extent by allowing me to gain real global industry experience. Furthermore, this gave me an opportunity to put theory into practice. The training that was provided help both my job role but developed my skills that will aid my journey in my final year at university.

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The office environment was professional but great fun, The day to day job varied which made it a fast paced environment. The office was a open plan office which meant that you could talk to and learn from other departments and team. It was an open environment, and the people where really friendly and up for a laugh.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The placement was well organised an the HR department provided great support throughout my year at JLR. There was great events and volunteering opportunities which allowed us to showcase and develop our skills. I had the opportunity to raise money for charity which allowed me to get to know the other undergraduates and spend some time away from the office.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The firm invested a lot into my training and the management very much endorse training sessions. There is a array of training session available through at JLR online site and the training courses are done to a very high standard. I was able to participate and undertake training courses in presentation skills, MS access course, ect. The business invests in your development from an early stage, as we were provided training on the first day.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The future prospect is great and if you perform well there is a opportunity to get fast tracked to the award winning graduate scheme. This placement has one of the best future employment prospects which was one reason which attracted my to JLR. There is also opportunity to apply for a permanent role.

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was social events organised to get to know the other under graduate.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The cost of living was not too bad, especially if you live in Coventry, However, Warwick and Leamington Spa are more expensive.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The night life was pretty good in both Coventry and Leamington Spa.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There was a lot of opportunities to get involved within outside work as the company provides every employee with £200 to spend on learning or developing a skill e,g, off road driving , cooking, ect. I was able to use my allowance on a super car track day which was a really great experience.
