The Role
Having started my placement in August I can confidently say that I have enjoyed my placement to date. I liked having the ability to get a feel for the firm’s structure and culture, and most of all the people at Shoosmiths are great.
The best thing about this placement is that my colleagues have not once made me feel like a placement student. I feel valued as any other person in my office as I complete the same work as most of them. Most important of all, my team were very caring of my progress.
My team leader and manager are brilliant. I feel I get the support I need during my placement by my manager condensing my aims. Also, I feel comfortable in asking for help when I don’t feel I can complete a certain task confidently and effectively.
Certain days there are lot’s of tasks that need to be completed but other days not so much.
I feel as though I have a great deal of responsibility as my work load is the same as any one else’s in the office. This includes the ability to issue a County Court claim form, or continuing further legal proceedings when the defendant fails to conclude his liability in the matter.
I feel that this placement has given me a great insight into the life of a lawyer working for a law firm thus enabling me to make clear careers choices following graduation. I feel that both my verbal and written skills have improved significantly since working for Shoosmiths which puts me in goof stead for my final year at university.
The Company
The atmosphere in our office was brilliant. Everyone is so very friendly which means that there is a lot of communication amongst colleagues. There were also always tasty snacks in the kitchen for everyone to munch on.
I think the placement is organised in a good way because you feel as though you are on the same level as everyone else.
The training and development opportunities are endless. I’ve had countless sessions which have all been very informative and helpful in improving the way I carry out my work tasks. You can tell that the people are the most valuable assets of the firm.
