About You
The insight was extremely well organised and it was a fantastic opportunity to gain experience in a different area of law. The team were very welcoming and ensured that I was exposed to a variety of work to enable me to make the most out of my placement.
Despite the team being very busy with work, every member took the time to talk to me each day to make sure that I felt both valued and supported throughout the week. I was supervised by a paralegal who also acted as a mentor and set me work to do each day, ensuring that I had a good exposure to a variety of tasks that he would undertake in practice. I was also set independent research tasks by individual solicitors to assist them with providing advice to clients.
The week was very well structured and I was given a timetable on the Monday outlining my deadlines and assignments throughout the week and the team ensured that I had sufficient time to complete these assignments during the placement. It was at times a little frustrating that I had to take time away from the legal work to complete tasks/assignments; however it did help me to develop my organisational skills and learn to prioritise.
The placement gave me the opportunity to build my professional network and also gain exposure to the area of law that I want to qualify into. It also gave me a better understanding of the firms values and how departments interact as a full service law firm which in turn gave me more confidence when talking about the firm at the tc assessment day this year.
The Company
The insight was very well structured and organised both by Graduate Recruitment and the team itself. I had a clear understanding of what work needed to be completed and was therefore able to make the most out of the placement by planning ahead.
The office atmosphere was very relaxed and everyone made me feel welcome throughout the week. Various members of staff took the time to introduce themselves and provide me with advice.
Graduate Recruitment set me various tasks throughout the week aimed at personal development and I received feedback following each task. The team also aimed to provide me with a variety of work throughout the week.
The insight gave me a great opportunity to experience working in a different department and also appreciate how departments interact within a full service firm.
I was able to appreciate how the firm's values work in practice and how the firm pulls together to provide various client services.
The insight reinforced my decision to continue with a career in law and also gave me the opportunity to experience the realities of the department that I aim to qualify into.
Everything Else
Undertook the insight as part of my current employment with the firm.
The placement gave me a great opportunity to build my professional network and most members of staff were extremely willing to take time to introduce themselves and even give me some useful and practical career advice. The current trainees were particularly helpful!
A quiz was held in the office after work which was a fantastic was to experience the great social side of the firm.
The office has a social committee that is responsible for organising various social events throughout the year.
I would definitely recommend the insight to anyone who is interested in a career in law. It was not only an enjoyable week but also enabled me to gain a better understanding of the firm and its values.
