The Role
Really enjoyed it. I learnt a large amount about accounting and working in tax, and thoroughly enjoyed my time with Grant Thornton.
All my colleagues valued my contributions. This increased as my internship progressed, and I was given the opportunity to work on a range of clients and projects.
All my managers were friendly and willing to help me and ensure I was getting the most from my time there. They checked on my progress and were good at getting me involved in a variety of projects.
On the whole I was busy. I was given a variety of work and was busy most days. However, there were a few days towards the beginning of my internship where there was little for me to do. On days like this I was either given some training courses, or asked to do filing. This was not as interesting as other things I did, but there were only a couple of days when this happened.
The responsibility I was given increased over my internship, and by the end I was able to work more independently on client work.
I learnt a lot from my internship. I feel I learnt a large amount about tax and accountancy in a short time. Along with this I developed my team working skills, and also went on a presentation skills curse, which will be useful for my degree and future career.
The Company
Everyone was very friendly and there was a good atmosphere. There were several sports and social clubs.
Really well organised. Before I joined they kept in contact with me, and on my first day I was given a detailed breakdown of what I would be doing and a really useful joining pack.
I feel they put a lot of investment in me. I was given good training, and my buddy was really willing to explain things in detail with me. Along with this we went on a corporate responsibility day, and also went to a presentation skills workshop.
Sports and Social Club
I would really like to work here in the future. I am waiting to hear whether I can transfer to the London office for my graduate job, but they seem really flexible. HR were really helpful in trying to sort out this transfer.
The Culture
All the other interns in my office were really friendly and nice. However we all started our internships at different times, so some were leaving when I started. I did get on well wth the other intern who started with me, and we went for drinks a couple of times.
I lived at home, which was cheap, and going out was reasonable. I spent quite a lot on petrol though, as I had to drive for 45 mins to the office.
There were lots of bars and a few clubs.
There were several sports clubs, and also lunches and drinks were often organised.
