The Role
This was a fantastic internship, I worked on the Innovation team and there were always loads of creative and involving projects for me to work on.
The team were great, everyone was very appreciative of my work and providing feedback was ingrained in the team's culture. We were actively encouraged to contribute ideas in team meetings.
My manager was always happy to help and we had regular 121s to discuss my progress, my career plans and how I was getting on with my day-to-day work.
I was very busy. Some of my projects were longer term and it was up to me to manage my time. There were also other weekly tasks that needed to be done too. Although I had a lot to do I was never overwhelmed and almost always left by 5.15pm.
I felt I was given responsibility from the start, more than I expected but I really enjoyed it and my managers were there to offer guidance if I needed it. I was asked how much I wanted to take on and what I would feel comfortable being responsible for.
I have graduated but I think the skills I have learnt are really transferable to applications and future jobs.
The Company
The atmosphere in the whole (huge) office was really friendly, everyone is relaxed but hard-working and would always offer help if you needed it.
The internship was set up really well and we had a great intern manager who provided us with any information we needed. There is lots of time to socialise with other interns in the company too. I was very lucky with my manager and others on my team who were committed to making sure I got the most out of my time at CRUK. We were also given lots of opportunities to develop our skills e.g. CV and presentation workshops.
We were helped in our development for applying to job with CV skills training.
Flexi Time
Working from home
I would like to continue to work at CRUK however the right entry level job has not come up yet.
The Culture
Yes - the interns went out for drinks once a week. I also went out with my team for various celebrations too.
There is a Spoons pub next door which is very cheap! A couple of restaurants etc offered discounts for CRUK staff.
There are some nice pubs and bars with 241 cocktail offers.
