The Role
Very enjoyable to work for Arup. Insightful placement with a great team.
I was given plenty of support and encouragement from all members of the team. I felt like I could approach anyone to ask questions which was really useful. But I still had the capacity to work to my own initiative if I wanted to try figure things out for myself. I found it really rewarding and supportive.
I was given real responsibilities from day one. I was allocated a structural asset and then assessed it myself. This included a lengthy report and computer simulations for which I was responsible, I felt that I was given work that genuinely contributed to the project and I was able to see my work through to the end.
I am now in my final year at university and I have found that I am still benefiting from the knowledge that I gained from this placement. I have been able to successfully apply my new skills to a lot of the work that I am undertaking at university. Beyond university, this placement will assist in helping me to obtain a graduate job. Furthermore I feel that I will be a better graduate employee as this placement has helped me to gain a better understanding of the industry.
