    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I enjoyed the insight very much! The Open Day was very informative and useful for vacation scheme and training contract applications. Everyone was extremely friendly, ranging from partners, trainees, the graduate recruitment team, to the participants. The business game (case study) was also very fun and interactive. It was very helpful as it is similar to group exercises and case study sessions that are often found in assessment centres.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I felt very valued during my day at Taylor Wessing. The partners took their time to speak to us at the event and also judged our business game presentations. Not to mention many trainee solicitors came to network with us during lunch and the drinks reception! Everyone was very polite and friendly. Even when I arrived at the office in the morning, a lawyer in the lift said good morning and wished me a good day when he left. Great start to the event.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • A lot. The senior partner came to speak to us about the firm and the firm's strategy, then the two graduate recruitment partners came to explain the schemes offered by the firm. The graduate recruitment team also gave us an overview of the application process and took us step-by-step through the process, such as how to excel in writing the application form and handling the assessment day. We also got a lot of valuable feedback from the partners after the business game.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I think the business game helped me to develop my teamwork and communication skills. We had to work with participants that we had only met for a few hours. We had about 40 minutes to prepare for a short presentation on a case study. I think the process enabled me to experience what would happen at an assessment centre and reflect on what I could have done better.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • Very well structured. Nothing overran and the event finished on time. Each session was very well structured and covered the areas I wanted to ask about. Perhaps the only issue is that the lunch could have been more well structured. The trainee solicitors were not evenly distributed to each table, and some of them had to leave early for work.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • Very fun and friendly. Everyone I talked to was very down-to-earth. No one was arrogant or stuck up. I love that the partners took the time to come to the event, which is very rare in events that other firms offer. The firm also seemed to be very friendly and collegiate. All the trainee solicitors I talked to love the firm and the work that they do.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The fact that they created a well structured and informative open day shows that they really care about their future talents. So the provision of informative presentations, a business game, with the involvement of trainee solicitors and partners, really shows how much they care. But then since it was only a one-day Open Day, I cannot comment too much on training and development.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • Very much. We could hear insights from different people in the firm, ranging from trainee solicitors to partners. We also learnt about the practice areas offered at the firm, the firm's operation and strategy, and so on. But then I think the scheme could have been improved by offering an office tour, so that participants would be able to observe how people work at the firm.

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • Very helpful. As I have mentioned, everyone was friendly and down-to-earth, so it definitely showed how collegiate the firm is. Another aspect is about the firm's innovation. Everything from the design of the building, the focus on art and photography, to the clients they work with (e.g. start-ups) helped to illustrate the culture.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • Very valuable. I have attended quite a lot of open days at various law firms, as well as a few insight schemes before. The event enabled me to understand a lot about Taylor Wessing. Now I am quite sure that I will apply to the firm for a vacation scheme.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • Yes. During lunch, we could talk to trainee solicitors over sandwiches and snacks. After the business game, some lawyers and trainees came to the drinks reception. We could also provide feedback to the graduate recruitment team. Though I think more trainees could have come and stayed for a longer time. Some of them had to leave early and return to work.

    4/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • Great. We could ask trainees about many questions, such as their LPC course and training contract experience. This enhanced my understanding of the firm, their values, and their culture. Immensely helpful for my vacation scheme application. The only area of improvement is that the trainees could have stayed for a bit longer! And it would have been great if qualified associates also came to the networking sessions.

    4/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • Yes, I found out quite a lot about the lawyers' life outside work. In the presentations, the partners and the graduate recruitment team mentioned the activities that they offer outside of work. By talking to the trainee supervisor during the business game, we could ask all sorts of questions and get to know their life outside work.

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • Yes, I would definitely recommend it! Through the open day, I got to see how unique and innovative Taylor Wessing is, which makes the firm very different from other competitors in the legal sector. Not to mention I had plenty of networking opportunities. I also made some new friends because the participants were all very nice and friendly!
