    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I thought the insight day was fun and informative. I particularly enjoyed the business game, where I was in one of the winning teams. All of the trainees, associates and partners that I came into contact with throughout the day were pleasant and happy to answer my questions. Sarah was great at making me feel welcome and relaxed at the start of the event.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I think this question would perhaps be more applicable to a longer placement, I was only with the firm for an open day and this just isn't long enough to be able to become a member of the team. However, I felt that all of the trainees seemed to find their work demanding and satisfying. Therefore, if I was around for a longer placement (such as the Vac. scheme), I feel I would feel more valued.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • I really liked the way in which the day was structured. There were sessions with Sarah, who gave us guidance on the application process from a HR perspective. We also got the chance to hear from the senior partner, who made some very interesting comments about what he believes makes Taylor Wessing different, which would be useful when applying for a vac. scheme/training contract. The recruiting partners were also very clear in their advice about applying and finally it was great to have the opportunity to meet a wide range of trainees.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • This was probably the most useful part of the open day for me. The feedback we received from Kirstie about giving business presentations was extremely useful; however, it would also have been useful to have some more individual tips, particularly as it looked as though you made quite a lot of notes about the groups performance as we were giving the presentation. Sarah's session on applications tips was also useful both for applying to legal firms; but, also for application in the wider sense of the word.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • In general the open day was well structured. I think that it is challenging to fit everything in to such a small space of time. I felt that all of the sessions were well planned and useful. However, I think it would have been nice to have had a tour of the building part way through the day. Particularly, as this would also have acted as a bit of a break and I feel that it was quite intense having a morning of talks followed by the business game which was relatively mentally challenging.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • I think that the atmosphere was generally fun. Everyone I met was approachable and happy to answer my questions. However, I did feel at some points as though it was slightly inconvenient for some of the trainees to help out on the open day and that they just wanted to get back to their desks. On the other hand, some of them were absolutely fantastic at answering questions. I think that the layout of the room we were in was also great as it allowed easy discussion with others open day attendees.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • 3/5

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • I felt that I gained a very clear idea about what life at Taylor Wessing is like for trainees. I cannot fault this aspect of the open day. It was particularly useful to talk to the current trainees, as the talked a lot about what they were currently working on and how the teams at Taylor Wessing work together; as well as how partners are always happy to give them 'real' work to do.

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • I think that my response to this is similar to the question above. I felt that the unique culture of Taylor Wessing was communicated very clearly through the open day. I feel that having the talk initially from the senior partner really helped re-enforce the values at the core of the firm. Again speaking to the current trainees also gave me a good idea about the open and client focused culture of this firm.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • Very useful. I think that I gained a much better idea about what working at Taylor Wessing would be like. I think it was also great to meet the people I could potentially be working with. I am still considering whether becoming a solicitor is right for me and I think this open day certainly helped me with that decision process. I also realised that I am much more interested in a medium sized firm such as Taylor Wessing, which has a clear life sciences focus rather than a magic circle law firm.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • Yes, there were lots of networking opportunities. It was particularly useful to talk to and meet current trainees, as they can probably best remember the application process. I think that we were also given the chance to meet a range of partners and it was nice that they took the time out of their busy schedules to meet us. It would however, have been nice for me to have had the chance to have met someone working in IP and unfortunately, I didn't have this opportunity.

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • 5/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • 5/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • I thought that the open day was fantastic and a great way of helping me to decide whether Taylor Wessing and a career in law are right for me. Everyone was extremely friendly and I thought the day was action packed and highly informative. I would definitely recommend someone in my position to apply for this opportunity!
