The Role
Cancer Research UK runs a regular, well-structured internship programme throughout the year and every single intern will gain invaluable skills and experience in this exciting and important charity.
Very valued. Given responsibility from the start and always kept busy with varied daily tasks and larger, longer projects. The Public Affairs team and the wider Policy department were so friendly and supportive throughout.
I met up with my manager for a one-to-one meeting once or twice a fortnight to discuss the skills I was gaining, the kind of work I'd like to be involved in, and generally guiding my personal development so I could gain the most out of my time there.
Mostly busy. Always more work/different tasks if you asked around the team.
A relative amount of responsibility.
I was given invaluable public affairs skills which have helped me to secure a graduate job in Westminster. I developed monitoring skills, greater understanding of Parliamentary affairs and procedure, health policy, lobbying, communication skills, Excel skills, creative campaigns skills, and general office experience.
The Company
Very friendly and fun. Great sense of community and very involving. Lots of charity fundraising going on and events to get involved in. Great social atmosphere amongst other interns.
Very well-organised. Very concerned that you got transferable skills from your hours volunteering for them.
Many training opportunities, ranging from presentation skills to linkedin, also CV and cover letter workshops provided.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Company Parties/Events
Travel loan
Very. I would have loved to stay on in such a friendly, buzzy environment. Also they are very keen for interns to apply for jobs within the organisation.
The Culture
Yes very. Lots of after-work activity.
Islington is pretty expensive but given lunch and travel allowances which helped a lot.
Great bars and restaurants.
Lots! At fundraising events and intern meet-ups.
