    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed my placement due to the way in which I was welcomed into the team & how everyone was willing to help with whatever it was i needed help with. I learnt a significant amount about pharmacy on my placement which i never would have learnt if my colleagues had not been as supportive and helpful as they were.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • The team i worked with was fairly large for such a small pharmacy yet everyone was helpful and also happy to help. They made me feel valued and extremely welcome which made it thoroughly enjoyable for me & as a consequence i did not want to leave!

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My tutor was the pharmacist and she gave me all the support and guidance i needed as well as teaching me further than i needed to know and gave me tasks to further my learning. After starting my placement i soon realised that the supervisor although did not have the qualifications of a pharmacist also knew a huge amount about the profession and was also extremely supportive and offered guidance as well.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • When i started the placement the pharmacy was fairly quiet however the pace picked up by the time i left and even when we were quiet there was always something for me to do. Even if it was the dreaded stock counts! I was also given cases to read up on for example: i was given a diabetes booklet to read up on so i knew more about the condition and also how to go about a blood glucose test.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • In my opinion i was given a lot of responsibilty. On one occassion at lunchtime i found myself in the shop & dispensary on my own, so i collected the prescription in & also starting dispensing the medicines ready for the pharmacist to check. However this did not happen regularly since i had lunch at the same time as the pharmacist! I was given the same responsibilities as the counter staff such as explaining about diabetes, giving out PO medicines etc. I was even given the responsibility of getting Controlled drugs from the cupboard and recording them in the registers.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills i developed will help me in my life because they are all the things you need to learn to become a pharmacist and most of the tasks i went through will not change in this type of profession. I was also taught about certain types of drugs and how they work which is extremely important in pharmacy.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere was great, everyone was extremely caring & everyone made it good fun to work even in the office.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The placement was not extremely well organised. When i first meet my tutor 3 weeks prior to the placement she did not have any idea what i would be doing on the placement or which hours or days. However my tutor was incredibly well organised and she used her initiative as to what tasks to give me.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Personal training did not need to be given since this was a summer placement.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • 3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I would definitely work for lloyds in the future & my supervisor and retails manager did want me to stay however i did not want to carry on working.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes, all the colleagues did want to go out with me for dinner since i was leaving however i was going on holiday so did not have time. However we are all meeting up before the end of the summer!

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
