The Role
I found my placement interesting, I always had work to do, there was never a bored moment and I really enjoyed working in the company as a whole.
I cannot speak highly enough of how welcoming the team was. Everyone was friendly, approachable and happy to help if I needed it. I was also thrown straight into the job, I felt like a member of the team, there was no exclusion because I was on placement.
My manager was always very approachable and always gave me time if I had a question. I was helped enough that I was able to work effectively and by myself to get my work done well.
Although I always had my projects to do, some days were more busy than others with extra little jobs which the team were including me in.
I was totally responsible for my own work and projects, however I never felt overwhelmed because whenever I asked for support it was readily given.
All the skills I have learnt or improved will be useful for my further degree studies, and the placement has confirmed for me that I would like a career in HR, in that way I hope I have developed what will be essential skills for my future career.
The Company
Everyone in the office worked very hard, the office can be quiet and serious at times. However, the team create a very comfortable atmosphere to work in, although working hard everyone is relaxed and I would say that everyone in the team is happy at work and enjoying their roles, as did I.
I always had work to do. My induction was on my first day, I had my own desk, the computor and everything I needed was already set up when I arrived. It was also easy for me to get involved in social events which meant I could get to know different members of the company in quite a short period of time.
I was pleasently surprised to be sent on two training courses in a two month placement. The team and my manager have also encouraged me to talk to other members of the team and of the company about their roles so that I gain the best understanding possible of working in the organisation.

Although I have no idea as to whether post university there would be an opening which I could apply to, I am very interested in coming back to work for HR here.
The Culture
There were an enormous amount of evenings out organised by the summer students. I also got involved with the company's rowing team which was a fun social scene to be involved in.
It is an expensive city, but the activities I got involved in were not expensive. I also lived at home so my living expenses were just fuel.
Cambridge nightlife is getting better each year and now the social scene is very good.
I was invited on evenings out, to get involved in sports and on lunches.
