The Role
All colleagues were helpful and nice, I felt very at home at Verizon!
My internship involved sending reports to colleagues about their performance and they were very appreciative of this work. By the end of my internship they were asking me not to leave as the work I was doing was so useful to them!
My manager was available to answer my questions, but not always had enough time to elaborate. I was supported a lot at the beginning of my internship which allowed me to work independently and not see as much support by the end of the internship.
It depended on what day of the week it was - Mondays were always very busy but then it quieted down at the end of the week due to many colleagues working from home and not needing anything from me. However if it was less busy, I could take the time to do courses and training, which allowed me to further develop skills
I was relied upon for a lot of reporting, including one report that was shown to a customer. It was my responsibility to make sure the reports were accurate and up-to-date
Everything I have learnt will be applicable to future studies or careers. Among others, I have developed IT-Skills, Teamwork skills, Entrepreneurial and Communication skills, as well as being able to manage my time more productively.
The Company
Everyone was very nice and the atmosphere was pleasant. many colleagues said that the atmosphere was improved by having interns here as we made sure to have fun while working. If I had been on my own as an intern here, the atmosphere would not have been as fun, as many people were very focused on their jobs so therefore not very chatty.
The internship was set up as very flexible to adapt to my needs during my placement year. Everyone was well prepared for my arrival and departure
It has been highlighted that interns in this programme are currently not trained to be brought on in entry-level positions, however this situation is expected to change.
Working from home
Although there aren't entry-level positions available, there are several options for being able to return to Verizon at a later date.
The Culture
Yes! All the interns were very sociable outside of work. Amongst colleagues there were sporadic social gatherings outside of work and it was common to go to lunch with a group of people.
Rent is high towards the city centre of Frankfurt but cost of food wasn't particularly expensive. Socialising is quite expensive depending on where you go but there were always cheap places to be found.
Frankfurt has a good nightlife scene as there are several clubs around the city and a district full of cheaper bars.
There are plenty of opportunities - sports clubs for example. It's also possible to search for groups with similar interests in online forums.
