The Role
I love being at IBM, and really enjoy my placement. They have the perfect balance between having real responsibility in an important role and being able to explore other positions through a programme called 'giveback'.
I have a key role and feel im important to my team. Whilst I may be an intern, the roles that we fill are vital to the companies day to day runnings.
The entire program is aimed at growth and development through the year, and this was wholly upheld by my team. They encourage changing different roles and responsibilities once you have mastered them to ensure you leave with a huge level skills.
It completely depends on the day, but somedays I can work till 7pm and somedays I'll leave at 4, and this is totally flexible and fine at IBM. However this also depends on your role and how much you want to take on, you can just do your core role or take on a few side roles/positions through the year.
At IBM you will be given an actual role, you are treated as a full time employee. Be prepared to take on an actual position rather than a filler because they've always had that role and need to fill it.
I have learnt a range of skills although this will vary on your role and how involved you get.
The Company
Formal but relaxed, as long as you are getting your job done then you are welcome to work flexibly
It is very encouraging and involved in our roles.
There is a whole two day program at the start of your year to train you, and then another month of handover where you willl be trained on a one to one basis
