The Role
The tasks were varied and intellectually stimulating.
My colleagues made me feel very welcome. The working environment as a whole is excellent.
My supervisor always gave me the level of help and support I needed.
There was always something to be getting on with. My line manager made sure the work never overwhelmed me.
I was working on a project by myself and hence carrying the entire responsibility.
For a career in IP, the skills gained are very useful.
The Company
The atmosphere was usually quiet and focused, but never in a depressing sort of way. Most people have a good sense of humor and become more talkative at lunchtime.
Far in advance I knew exactly where to go on my first day and lots of assistance was offered in terms of accommodation etc.
My line manager invested a lot of time in me and I was able to attend an internal training course.
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
A performance review at the end of the placement gives a good indication as to whether the company is interested in recruiting you as a graduate.
The Culture
There were lots of other students, a Facebook group, communication via email etc.
Unfortunately Cambridge is quite expensive, but there are plenty of things to do.
It's fun - but slightly on the expensive side. Staying in Cambridge makes socialising and going out a lot easier but it also means the commute in the morning takes rather long - particularly by car.
There are lots of societies that are organised by ARM employees but there is a vast range of other activities to do in and around Cambridge. Also, London isn't too far away either!
