The Role
I have loved every minute of my placement at IBM. Coming in to a new role and company was extremely daunting however my team made me feel extremely welcome and constantly offer me support and guidance.
I felt extremely valued by my colleagues. I feel lucky to have been put in such a supportive and appreciative team who I know I will remain life long friends with. We had weekly calls to discuss what each other was doing and who may need support with what and regular catch up to discus career progression and what else I would like to be doing.
I was given complete support by my management. I had weekly calls with my manager and the team and monthly one-to-ones. I had daily contact with my task managers and they were more than willing to meet whenever I wanted/ needed to.
Although it varies day-to-day in general I had a great balance. Some weeks I would be much busier and my colleagues would offer great support, other weeks I would have spare time and ask for project work. Having a large network made finding project work easier and it was a nice addition to my day job.
I was given the right amount of responsibility for a placement student. I was given ownership of my own projects which meant I had direct contact with executives and dealing with their queries.
I think the skills I have developed will greatly help with my final year of university and beyond. They will drastically help me get a job after University.
The Company
The atmosphere is professional yet friendly. My team all sit together, we often have discussions on what is going on at the time. We support each other and are almost always laughing with each other and just generally happy and up beat.
I had a sound handover from my predecessor followed by regular meetings with my team when she left. IBM Foundation who run the internship program are great. We have regular training sessions and modules we are encouraged to attend to continue our learning. Careers academy to prepare us for life after IBM and 3,6 and 9 month reviews with our EPM (Early Professional Manager) who are there to help us with life at IBM.
I feel IBM invested greatly in me. IBM and in particular Foundation offered regular learning and training sessions as well as modules in which we got to chose IBM related topics that interested us the most. As I was in a HR role, the HR community also invested in us by letting us attend enei events. As well as this the many 'communities' within IBM offer different learning and training events. For example I was a member of the project management and connecting women communities and regularly went to events they held.

The Culture
Great. IBM has a large intern community with active social platforms, this made it easy to meet up with other interns. Thursday nights are always particularly fun as a lot of the interns will go for drinks together.
I lived and worked in central London so very expensive, I left placement in debt despite being paid.
Lots of choice for whatever night you want and always busy.
IBM offers lots of 'giveback' opportunities. We always went on lots of team outings and Intern outings.
