The Role
The intern community at IBM was great and there's lots of opportunities to get involved with both inside and outside of work. The culture was also very good as IBM are all about flexible and agile working.
From day one I was considered as a member of the team rather than just being treated like a typical intern.
This was probably one of the best parts of the placement scheme as they offer lots of support through regular reviews with both your manager and early professionals manager.
This definitely varies throughout the year as sometimes I was swamped in work and on the other hand sometimes I was just twiddling my thumbs. However, we were encouraged to seek extra work or get involved in giveback if we are not that busy.
I was thrown in at the deep end from the beginning; participating in high profile projects and meetings.
I think that everything that I learned throughout my placement year can be applied to the majority of my final year modules as well as any future work experiences that I have.
The Company
Although the group of interns that I was with was great our office was very small so there was never much of a buzz. However, the Southbank office is much, much better.
We had plans for the year of what we wanted to achieve and the initial 2 day induction really helped us understand what was expected of us for the year.
There was not that many opportunities for training however there is lots of of courses and information about the company on the online portal.
Flexi Time

National Travel
Company Parties/Events
Above 25 days holiday
Working from home
Although I may not want to move forward with the role that I was in, IBM is definitely a company that I would consider working for in the future.
The Culture
The intern community was really good at IBM, as long as you attend the socials and get involved where you can.
I lived at home but Manchester is fairly well priced and you can find good accommodation whatever budget you have.
Manchester is like a mini London in my eyes just a lot, lot cheaper which can be very appealing for people.
IBM encourage employees to participate in giveback such as mentoring schemes, presenting to schools and universities and helping out with young children.
