The Role
I have enjoyed working for IBM and I have learned something new every day. Working for such a large corporation allows you to gain insight into a range of internal events as well as external. In my department, there is a real sense of family which makes one feel very much welcomed. And there are parties and celebrations and rewards to always celebrate which is enjoyable,
Depending on the project and my input, it varied.
I truly appreciate the support and guidance provided by IBM, my line manager, my colleagues and everybody in the company. I was provided training from the beginning and revision sessions are available for refreshing whenever. My line manager always made himself available to me no matter how big or small a problem. Also, my colleagues have always been friendly and approachable so I have never hesitated to ask whomever is sitting next to me for help.
The department I worked in is 'seasonal'. It is not busy every single day. There are two periods of 2 or 3 months which are busy throughout 12 months. However when it is less busy, we are encouraged to work on research, white papers and other ongoing projects in the department.
Depending on the task itself, I would have a certain amount of output. And when working on particular projects, I would be asked to carry out 2 or 3 tasks at the same time which I find enjoyable.
I think this depends on whether I choose to pursue a career in HR or a related industry after University. I do believe I have grown more confident using technology in the workplace which will be beneficial in my degree studies and beyond. There have been moments where I have been able to put University taught or text book theories into real world practice.
The Company
My office has a real sense of belonging. It is very close knit and welcoming.
IBM is very well organised from the beginning of my application process through all my employment with them. I have been informed of whom to contact for whatever I request or may need and I have always received prompt replies to emails/questions I may have.
From my first day at the office I have been given training on how to use the different software, programmes and IBM systems, which can be revised at any point during the year. I have also been given extra training on other services at IBM.

Working from home
I will definitely be applying to IBM again.
The Culture
The placement students have a Facebook group where all socials are posted. One student in particular organised a Christmas Boat Party across the River Thames which was a great hit!
Given that I have been based in London, the pricing of my accommodation is almost 4 times more than what I paid at University. I did get my monies value based on my location. Living in London and socializing comes at a price, some dear, some not. I always planned ahead and know how much I am spending which isn't too much of a shock after!
It's London. It's epic. Do I need to say more?
I am aware of sports socials and activities existing via Facebook however I never participated in any.
