The Role
Great and very valuable experience! I've mostly enjoyed my learning progress because IBM is providing various sources of information and online learning courses. It wasn't only to my current job role, but to the role/area in which I am interested in! IBM allows you to focus on areas where you want to develop new skills and knowledge, as well as is supporting your decisions about continuing to the Graduate Scheme. I've received great support and valid advices from my manager throughout the year.
I have been driving and sometimes (to some point) leading the projects on Europe and Global level. Therefore, I felt really well valued not just by my colleagues but also by other IBM members from all over the world. It was extremely great experience because I was able to share my ideas and those ideas were listened all the time. I always felt as a member of the team - as IBMer, not as the student.
My task manager supported me really a lot during my year at IBM. However, usually it was only guidance and advices. Provided guidance was much better and I really appreciated it because I was able to learn much faster and develop my own skills, as well as be able to work with other teams globally.
It wasn't stable. Sometimes, during busy periods, I had to work very hard to achieve all business objectives and also learn at the same time. However, during quite periods, I was more able to focus on my personal development and doing givebacks to the IBM. Therefore, I would say, it was just right for me.
The responsibility was growing with successfully completed tasks and projects. After a few months, I've been given the projects with high responsibility - however, always under the supervision (guidance) of my task manager.
Greatly! The skills but mainly knowledge gained from year at IBM will assist me during my studies (already decided on dissertation subject and what areas I should focus during year 3 at university) and especially while applying for Graduate jobs. Moreover, IBM is providing shadowing opportunities, where you can try a specific job role and develop the required skills of the given subject/area. It is great way to find out more about new areas and meet new people.
The Company
Very well organised. Our managers kept us informed about the upcoming events and expectations they might had during the year.
Online learning system - Think Academy, Think40 systems Various shadowing opportunities - also in different IBM locations Professional learning sessions with early professional managers & UK events Availability to complete online courses and receive a certifications of completion But mainly, nice people who always offer a help when needed
Flexi Time
Financial Bonus
Working from home
There is an internal process to apply back to IBM for Graduate Scheme, giving you much higher chances to gain the Graduate job role. You are required to apply before the end of your placement year and application will be revised already during the summer period. You might be invited straight to the business interview, skipping the entire process of IPAT tests and Assessment Centres.
The Culture
Yes, a lot, such as givebacks, shadowing, volunteering, learning, events, social activities with interns etc.
