    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • It was a very good experience in terms of an introduction to the working environment. I was given opportunities to display my strengths and also get an insight to all of the others job available within IT.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I was welcomed by every member of the team and was able to develop good relationships with the majority of them. The staff were friendly and provided help when required.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The staff were friendly and provided help where required. My manager was also able to assess my strengths and set me assigments based on what he thought I was capable of doing. I was also handed numerous projects by my university which required monthly participation from my manager/supervisor, which they were happy to provide.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I think the balance was good. There would be times where I would be very busy depending on the day of the week and the tasks I had been set. There would also be times where I was quiet and therefore able to get on with long term work such as service documentation.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Initially there was'nt much responsibility, but I think this was good as I was learning about the field of work I was in and gaining an understanding about the processes in place. Each month I would be given more responsibility and be assessed based on the quality of my work.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • In terms of my degree I can't say as I have just finished this placement. But overall in terms of experience, the skills attained and just generally I believe working here has put me a cut above the rest.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • At times the atmosphere was very hectic depending on what was going on at the time. As I was in IT, you find that the atmosphere is generally quite busy.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The company took in a group of 7 placement students in total. We were all introduced, taken for lunch, assigned a (buddy) and given sufficient training in the first few months on the general scope of the company.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company invested in training for me on a regular basis. I was able to attend ITIL V3 Courses, Excel courses and also general courses which working on Communication, meeting and development skills.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The company currently does'nt have a graduate scheme, so it may be difficult to join the company at a later stage. But I hear this may be set to change soon.

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The relationship was good with the other placement students. It makes the experience easier when you have students in the same boat as you all new to the company.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • If you choose to work in the city and you commute from out of london be warned that travel is expensive and so is a Sandwich!

  • There are a number of bars and restaurants around the city so you can make a night of it.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • The company has a sports a social club which organise corporate events each season and also monthly events such as golf days and go-karting.
