The Role
What I enjoyed the most was the responsibility I was given, I felt like a full time member of the team and was assigned work that made a difference to both the company and myself as an individual. It enabled me to stay focused and on my toes at all times which for me gave me a great level of satisfaction. The key highlight was not being treated like an intern and making a difference. With that being said I enjoyed my placement extensively and would highly recommend it.
In my role I was privileged enough to be around senior ranking staff to which I contributed work to. The delta I extracted was quite crucial to the financial reviews so I felt like I was extremely valued. In general everyone I have worked with and met is approachable and easy to talk to, they can offer you with the help you need granted they have some band-with and will do their best to find out or get anything you require. People do value your work, and everyone in your team wants to see you succeed; the relationships you develop are down to you and down to the way you network and make the most of the opportunity.
Support is always available, IBMers are really helpful as mentioned above they are there to support your growth and understand that you are still at university doing this placement. Fact is you will make some mistakes along the way however guidance will be provided into how not to make them again and be put back on the right path. You are here to learn and grow in which you will, task managers offer helpful insights into what you would like to do or learn and will be there for you every step of the way.
Every day is a different day and in my role things changed on a daily basis. Yes you have some Ad-hock tasks that you do a certain number of times a week but the rest of your weekly filler would be varied, this really tests your flexibility and willingness to go and try new things and tasks. Some days you may have nothing to do however IBM offers a massive online learning center full of courses you can do so no excuses!
As mentioned above one of the things I favored most was the responsibility I was given. I felt like I was trusted in getting things done and I was also given credit when it was due. As an intern at IBM you are expected to manage responsibility well and will be handed tasks with a high level of responsibility however you have the support of your task managers whenever it is needed, they will guide you along the way and provide insights and opinions.
Seeing as this was my first job it gave me a handful of skills that I can take back with me at university and every day life. I have grown as a person as well as in the business and every day working world. I feel more confident in my speech and approach to individuals I have not met before. My grammar has improved in a sense that I am now more well spoken with and have expanded my vocabulary, I feel confident in returning to university and applying for graduate jobs now going forward in my future.
The Company
Corporate environment, not exactly Google; everyone has their heads down at work, well at least in my department anyway. Its an easy to work in environment, all about your network and who you socialise with as well as the individuals in your department as well as where you are based. These factors consider a lot towards the overall atmosphere you experience throughout your placement.
Outstanding, IBM wins a lot of awards and they deserve them all! The experience you get is second to none. The set up enables you to get the most of your experience while providing with all the support you need, all you need to do is ask and get out of your comfort zone as people here are very willing to give a helping hand when needed.
IBM has a whole set up of internal training where you can take classes and sign up for. This could be for work in your area or specific training in areas you are interested in. The materials and resources are all at arms reach just need to be willing to make the most of them and actually show some interest in favored areas and this could help improve your knowledge and ability as well as performance.

Very appealing, what you put in is what you get out. If you put in the hard work and you enjoy what you are doing IBM will help you in the re application process; they have many programmes dependent on the department you are interested in joining back. Very well structured re application process for graduates and very appealing and competitive.
The Culture
The placement programme is very active especially in southbank, the intern community is active and there are always events going on set up by interns for interns. All interns have a close bond and are very cohesive and it is a very distinct community amongst the organization.
Being central London it can be quite expensive esepcailly for getting drinnks and getting lunch. Average you would spend on lunch would be around £5 so you would not want to buy lunch everyday; most interns would bring in a packed lunch as the canteen would have similar prices. Bar's as you would expect are quite expensive in southbank however some offer great happy hour deals so there are good deals to be found you just need to explore!
Southbank is a beautiful place to work, so many performances go on no matter the season, summer you get a lot of street art and dancing going on and winter you have all the stalls, really adds to the seasonal touch. Nightlife again can be expensive but as stated London is meant to be explored so the 'time out' magazine should be your friend for your duration here.
I did not partake in any, outside activities had not been communicated with me.
