The Role
The internship was fantastic. I felt really valued in my team, and by others in the company. My role was so varied, that I was rarely doing the same thing everyday.
I felt completely valued and welcomed into the team. I was involved in weekly conference calls with my team and often asked to help out on projects and felt genuinely appreciated by my colleagues.
The internship scheme is really great in terms of support with personal development. I had weekly meetings with my manager where we talked through personal development goals, what I have been working on and what I would like to experience during my internship. In addition to this, you have the opportunity to apply for a mentor, someone not directly in your team who can help with job applications and understanding more about the charity.
I was busy throughout my entire internship. I had my own projects that I was working on and I also supported my team with ad hoc duties. I decided that I wanted to involve myself in as much as I could and really make the most of the internship. Therefore I was always involved in events and campaigns that were not necessarily part of my team directly and not part of my intern role.
I had complete responsibility for my own projects, projects that helped my team, and hence gained great project management skills. As an intern you are given the freedom to set up your own meetings with people you would like to talk to and given the responsibility to manage your own time.
The skills I have learnt from this internship are more valuable than I ever thought they would be. Being out of University for 3 years, and working in a variety of other roles, I felt that I hadn't gained that many useful skills to take forward into a career. Over the course of the 12 weeks this internship has given me professional skills across the board; from project management, charity awareness, communication to networking skills. Development is a key part of the internship and consistently emphasised throughout, with LinkedIn, CV and interview workshops worked into the internship. Internal and external job roles are advertised to interns, and I secured a permanent role within the team I was interning in!
The Company
The atmosphere is great. Everyone is really passionate about the cause and it makes for a great working environment.
The internship was well organised from day 1. The interview was professional and informative. The induction day included talks from a variety of CRUK employees, team building exercises and presentations on the company. Throughout the internship there are opportunities to get involved with intern activities and intern fundraising.
Fantastic training and development opportunities and a great support from HR. You are able to attend most of the training sessions if you want, and everyone is very supportive and encouraging with job applications.

Great- I am now employed by CRUK.
The Culture
Really good intern group. We went for weekly drinks and lunched together most days!
I was lucky enough to live at home so living costs were kept to a minimum. In terms of socialising, Angel is an expensive areas, but there are definitely places to go to socialise on the cheap!
Really great for drinks and dinner after work.
Loads of opportunities to volunteer with many events!
