The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my internship at CRUK, it's such a great charity and really well run. The internship is well structured, it felt like a proper job and I learnt so much in such a short space of time.
I felt really valued by my colleagues. I was immediately made to feel part of the team, invited to social events and treated like a member of staff instead of an intern. My manager and team were really appreciative of the work I did and I felt really valued.
I was given a lot of support and guidance by my manager. We had weekly 1:1s where we discussed what I was struggling with and what I wanted to do more of. I was given clear guidance with all of my tasks and projects and was always encouraged to ask for help if I needed it and consistently worked on my personal development. My manager also gave me guidance when it came to looking for jobs and she advised me on how to get the most out of the internship.
Really busy- I was in a really exciting and busy team. There was always lots going on and I was never short for something to do, the days always flew by and if my manager didn't have something for me someone else in the team did. I definitely was not making tea! if I ever felt too busy my manger would offer to take something off me and I was always encouraged to go home at 5pm.
I was given a lot of responsibility from the very first day. My manager trusted me to get on with my projects and didn't micro manage. My manger was on annual leave for two weeks whilst I was in the middle of a really important project and she trusted me to get on with it and take ownership of everything I did.
I've already graduated, but the skills I have learnt will definitely help me in getting jobs and developing my career.
The Company
Very relaxed and fun, we always chatted a lot, celebrated birthdays and helped each other out. It's not very corporate environment and you feel very comfortable. Everyone works really hard but has fun doing it!
Really well organised, we had an induction day and an innovation day which was a great way to meet the other interns. We also had reviews with our managers in weeks 2,6 and 12 and a CV skills/ applications workshop which was very helpful. Throughout the internship there was always someone to talk to if there were any issues and it felt very well organised.
Personal development was constantly encouraged from the start of the internship. It was recommended that we apply for a mentor and we were frequently sent job opportunities and we were given training on CV, interview and presentation skills, which were all very useful. If you wanted to work on a key skill they would always make sure you could do this by setting you a certain task or giving you a presentation to do. I was given feedback and encouraged to keep developing my skills.

I would love to stay at CRUK and will definitely look for jobs here in the coming months.
The Culture
Yes definitely, we went for lunch together every day, had drinks every Thursday and planned nights out together. The social scene was definitely one of the best parts of the internships.
It was pretty expensive but that's just typical London prices. There were some good bars that did 2 for 1 offers or happy hours which was good. I was lucky enough to live with a friend throughout my internship so it kept my costs down a bit but in general it's really expensive.
Angel is great place to work, there are so many bars, pubs and restaurants right on CRUKs doorstep and it's really well connected to all parts of London.
Yes plenty, we were encouraged to do intern fundraising, there were sports teams you could join, a lunchtime running club and I was always invited to team drinks and team events. As I was in the High Value Supporter Partnerships team there were always lots of events to volunteer at too.
