    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The internship is very much about personal development and is based on what you as an intern would like to learn and experience - not merely grabbing coffee and making photocopies. I was given a list of projects at the beginning of my placement and it was my choice which ones I completed and when (obviously it was semi-dependent on deadlines). You are also given smaller day-to-day tasks but there is no obligation for you to complete these unless you have capacity to do so.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • The team I was a part of were continuously supportive and genuinely helped me throughout my time here. I was included on the team-emailing list which meant I was constantly updated with what was occurring throughout the team as well as invited to the weekly team meetings where we discussed what individuals were doing throughout the week and if anyone needed help.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I had weekly meetings with my manager to discuss anything that I felt needed to be aired, this included a catch up on my progress with projects, whether I need more or less responsibility, and if I had any problems at all. Additional support was offered from the Volunteering team, with emails every few weeks to check on the intern's progress and also just as another point of contact should I need anything.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • There was never a dull moment in this placement, with your day being balanced between larger projects, day-to-day tasks, and fundraising responsibilities. Having said this, there was never a time where I felt that the work load was too much and that I was unable to complete the tasks given to me. Towards the end of the placement, most of the projects were completed and so it is just finishing off what you have been given which can lead to work being a little slow at times.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • The level of responsibility I was given was completely driven by what I felt comfortable with. During the first few weeks I asked for smaller tasks until I felt confident in my role and my position within the office. By the end of the internship I was leading my own projects and was given tasks that carried a lot more responsibility.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The experience within this team and within CRUK as a whole has provided a great insight into office life is like within this company. It has also given me the opportunity to develop the skills needed to work in this field as well as provided feedback on what areas/skills I need to develop further.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • There is an overwhelming passion for the company's cause, and this is reflected in every aspect of the internship. Through this passion, there was a very positive and pro-active atmosphere throughout every team. Additionally, my team would celebrate any birthdays or positive achievements with a cake which really boosted morale.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • There is a clear structure in how the internship is organised

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Every intake of interns are tasked with fundraising throughout their placement, which really provides the opportunity for the interns to work together and communicate outside of their own individual teams. Additionally, every Thursday the interns would go to their local pub for a quick catch up as well as for any celebrations (i.e. birthdays).
