The Role
I enjoyed the internship immensely. It was well structured and organised. The project was a little tedious but it was important work that would have an impact on the success of the research strategy.
I felt very valued. My team were very supportive and were always enthusiastic to hear about what I had been working on and my results. They often checked to ensure I was on track and getting on okay.
I was regularly given support and guidance. I received feedback on my work regularly and developed many new skills, while improving others.
I was busy almost all the time after week 3. I rarely got bored after this time. The project took a little time to get going, as I was the first intern to work in this area and we needed to establish clear goals and processes.
I was given a good amount of responsibility, as I gave two presentations to my team members, one including the head of my department. If I did not have results, the presentations would not have gone well. I also helped to organise and run an external team meeting, which had an impact on PhD students opinion of the charity.
The skills I have gained have made me a lot more employable than before I had begun this internship. My CV is stronger and I feel I have developed professionally. I have high hopes for my future career.
