About You
Quite jam-packed, a good chance to meet different employees across the Technology department in Deloitte and experience what the company culture there is like. What I enjoyed the most was the chance to have a mock interview with them and having further career opportunities clarified. I would recommend it to anyone interested in learning more about what Deloitte does and who they are.
Good care taken, I had no problems. They made sure everything was ok and there was plenty of room to ask any questions related to Deloitte. Because the spring programme lasted only for two days, the relationships established throughout were rather superficial but yet everyone was very friendly and happy to help.
There was a resource pack with all slides from both days printed out and given to us which helped easily follow all presentations and make relevant notes. Each day's schedule was described clearly. During the business game, actual employees from different subteams from the Technology Consulting area of Deloitte came and helped resolve any issues or uncertainties we had about our approach to the task.
I came out of the personal presence presentation with better understanding of how body language and voice affects how you are seen when speaking. Lots of useful tips about how to sit, stand and so on during interview time. I also have a better view of the internal functions within the Technology team of the company and possible career path as well as travel possibilities later on.
The Company
The first day of the insight started out fantastically but overall was a bit too intensive. During the second day, not as much happened, so the schedule could potentially be balanced better. There was a good balance of different modes of communication about a career in Technology at Deloitte, including presentations by employees, people on graduate schemes, case studies and a mock interview, but could be some of them could be more interactive.
I felt good during the insight, the staff was nice and friendly. There was a number of students from diverse backgrounds and making friends with them made the event exciting as well. The atmosphere was rather casual despite the formal circumstances and the activites were designed in a fun, engaging way.
An external speaker was invited to help us develop skills in personal presence, as well as some employees came in to talk to us. Food and drinks were provided throughout both days and one night's hotel stay was covered as well. On the night of the hotel stay, a networking dinner was arranged to help us get to know them better in a more friendly way.
A lot of insider information was given during the insight, which is not easily accessible anywhere else but from actual employees. A number of people from different stages of their career at Deloitte were introduced to help us better understand the breadth of possibilities available. Experiencing the company culture first-hand was a vital part of the scheme as well.
As mentioned above, having the chance to hear from a number of employees meant that the insight into Deloitte's company culture was much more balanced and probably more genuine.
I feel more interested in a career in technology consulting now, having better understood how it is at Deloitte. I previously vaguely knew what the subteams of the Technology Consulting part of Deloitte do but after this insight, I could easily decide which one I would most likely want to join.
Everything Else
Deloitte offers a reimbursement of up to 50 pounds for travel expenses. Most of the students taking part in the programme lived in London or not far away from the city, which meant little additional travel costs. However, as I needed to commute from Scotland, I needed to cover some of the expenses on my own as they were above the threshold.
There was a networking dinner arranged, were 2-3 current technology consulting employees would join the students to facilitate information exchange about what a career at Deloitte is like, to share their experience about their career progress, opportunities, challenges, as well as the pros and cons of working in a big 4 company.
They talked about different societies and appreciation clubs (e.g. wine club) and voluntary work they do to help local communities. Apart from that, they mentioned socials and different networks within Deloitte where you can meet other employees at Deloitte both from your department as well as others. They also seem to be flexible about altering work schedules to let you fit in any activities outside work such as language classes or sports.
