About You
I enjoyed it thoroughly, especially the tour of Deloitte Digital, which gave a real insight and feel into the change of environment of this part of the business compared with the well-known other areas. The people I met were great, and overall it was a fantastic time. Although, there was so much fitted into each day that perhaps it was difficult to stay focussed for it all, but that is to be expected of any insight scheme.
Deloitte took real care of us, making sure we always had enough food and booked us into an amazing hotel with a lovely 3 course dinner there in the evening with other attendees and Deloitte employees. They seemed genuinely keen to attract as many of us onto their SVS as possible.
Interview practices, case study practices and examples, and a speaker to help with developing yourself as a person and the importance of body language were all really helpful in supporting us as people, not purely as potential applicants. However, due to the short time (2 days), there was a limited amount that any employer could do to support more or do more to guide us personally into finding our career paths.
As the skills developed were mainly career skills, such as interviewing, case study conducting, and body language focussed for internal confidence, and as the programme has occurred in the Easter holiday so recently, I have not seen much impact on my degree as of yet. However, in applying for positions within university societies or career-related positions, I am sure these skills will become invaluable.
The Company
Very well-structured. There was a timetable at the start in our powerpoint packs that outlined exactly what we were doing each day, including the time of lunch, and it was always very clear what we were going to do after a tour or workshop. I am happy that they did not organise more after the evening meal as I am sure everybody was shattered from the busy day!
It was relaxed, fun and really friendly. The graduate recruiters and organisers could not have been more helpful and also had a great sense of humour. The people, I would say, were one of the best part of the programme. It did not feel competitive or unfriendly at any point and the general atmosphere was to learn and meeting new people.
They invited guest speakers, and had many of their employees come do case studies and interview practices with us, so in general I think a lot was invested in each of us and that they wanted us to reach our potential in terms of personal development. They invested by giving us huge amounts of information about their application process that was not on their website.
I think it was a fair insight, with speakers ranging from graduates to managers detailing their day-to-day roles and Q&A sessions, answering anything we wanted to know about their jobs. By interacting with employees from different service lines from case study exercises, ranging from the most junior employees to senior partners we were able to learn a lot about what it would be like to work in these different technology liens.
Incredible culture - really friendly people, 'work hard play hard'.
Technology was never something I really considered before this event, mainly as I was unsure what a job in technology consulting would entail, but this event really made this career path stand out to me, as one that is constantly evolving, exciting, and involving lots of travel and dealing with new ideas. I would definitely consider this career path.
Everything Else
We were reimbursed for our travel after the event up to £50, and also received free lunches in office, as well as a three course dinner in a 5* hotel in the evening and breakfast in the hotel in the morning. It was incredibly generous, especially as this was only a two day event, and the food and hotel room were definitely big bonuses into applying to Deloitte.
During the event, at the dinner in the evening
Brilliant - meal in the evening, however limited due to the fact this was only a 2 day event
Briefly during the dinner - hockey, teaching
Definitely.
