About You
I found my experience at Fidelity to be very delightful. Everyone there is so friendly and passionate about their job areas and that was something that would really refreshing and enlightening to see. This was the first time I experienced Asset Management and I'm glad that it was here at Fidelity.
We were not given any really work or projects to complete which is understandable as we were only there for a week. But I did feel valued as so many employees from recent graduates all the way up to Global Heads each took time out of their day to speak to us about themselves and their work and answer any questions we had. obviously they were all very busy people but not once did I feel like any speakers were rushed or anything.
We were greatly informed of all the different business areas at Fidelity from both business representatives and the HR team. The business representatives would tell us all about what they did, how they got into the roles they are in today, any tips they had and challenges they faced etc. Whilst the HR team focused more on the application process and what we were to expect if we were to apply to the Graduate scheme; interview style, assessment centres, application deadlines, what to do and what not to do in application form etc.
From this programme, I feel that my presentation skills have greatly improved due to being able to watch how others presented and also from the feedback we received from business representatives.
The Company
We got a clear timetable at the beginning of the week detailing exactly what we were doing each day and the times that these activities would take place. Everything pretty much stuck to timetable.
I can't explain how relaxed and informal the atmosphere is at Fidelity. You would think with it being a global company that the atmosphere would perhaps be quite daunting and intimidating but this was the pool opposite. Everyone is more than willing to talk to you and hep you with any queries or concerns that you have.
Obviously we were only there for the week so no intense training and development as much could be invested in us. However, I learnt far more than I thought I would in a week from all the presentations and from speaking to employees
I feel that from my experience and talking to different representatives from across the business areas, I got a real feel of the dynamics within Fidelity. Everybody is very willing to help one another rand although there work will be hard and challenging, you are by no means on you're own and there are always people there to guide you along the way.
It was so nice to see how all the employees tended to say similar things when it came to the company and its culture therefore showing how much it had been naturally embedded into each one of them.
This spring week has really persuaded me to pursue a career within the Equity Research team at Fidelity and I look forward to applying for their summer internship later this year.
Everything Else
We filled to travel forms and I expect to be reimbursed within the next few weeks. Accommodation was also provided which was very near to the offices; under a ten minute walk. Our flats were shared with another participant on the SW programme and very modern
Absolutely! Met at least five employees a day and had many networking sessions with recent graduates, HR team and senior members of Fidelity
So many nice social events. On the first night we were taken out for drinks after work at a nearby bar. This was a really nice opportunity to get to know some of the other girls on the programme. Also, on the final night we were treated to a in-house curry which was very nice and also a trip to the London Eye.
We were informed about the Diversity&Inclusion Committee but not much else in regards to what employees get involved in outside of work
100%. I feel that not as many people know about this spring week programme compared to those at investment banks, but this programme was a very natural, enjoyable week that i think lots of people would love. I learnt so much more about the world of finance and the work that goes on within asset management within this week, therefore would definitely recommend it to others
