The Role
I really enjoyed my internship. I can't think of one negative!
I wasn't treated like an intern, it was as if I was a first year graduate. It was a great feeling to be treated as an equal. I got on and had a laugh with everyone I met.
Managers were always there for me if I had a question and I was assigned a BDO "buddy" who I could always go to for advice. However, if I needed any help I was able to ask anybody anything because everyone was so nice!
I spent a lot of time away at client's offices which was interesting and I always had plenty of work to get on with. It was great that I didn't have to ever stay in the office late and I was never bogged down with too much work.
Everybody is responsible for their own work and I felt that I had exactly the same amount of responsibility as anyone else in the office which was nice.
The skills I developed won't necessarily assist me with my degree, but they will definitely help in later life. My confidence has improved. Since the internship has made up my mind that I want to work in this sector, these skills should prove vital for me when I start working full time.
The Company
Obviously you aren't able to have too much fun in the office, like anywhere, but there is always a pleasant atmosphere. It was also quite laid back in the office which means you are able to chat and have a bit of laugh as well as working.
I could not fault any of the organisation. Training in London was arranged fantastically and so were all the travel and accommodation arrangements. The work that I was set was also arranged well as I always had something to do or somewhere to go.
I feel that the firm invested a lot in me because BDO paid me a decent wage, paid for my travel to clients, my accommodation on away jobs, work related expenses and also a lot of time supporting me through my work.

I have the impression that so long as you do what you are asked and you don't upset anybody in the office, a job offer should be on the table. The only reason I haven't put 10 and said that I have got the job is because I have not received confirmation or a contract yet (I've only finished my internship today). However, in my exit interview everything was extremely positive and there was a strong suggestion that I should be receiving that confirmation soon (after authorisation from head office). It is clear that BDO hold the internship scheme with the intention of employing you as a graduate afterwards!
The Culture
I am very lucky to have made so many friends with the other interns, they are a great bunch of people. We have all had a great time and we've had quite a few good nights out!
It was in Manchester, so the prices are standard.
I had a very long commute to work so unfortunately I wasn't able to go out in the area where the office was during my 6weeks. However, it is Manchester, so the nightlife is amazing!
During my internship I took part in the national BDO football tournament. This involved every office coming to Manchester for the football and two big nights out. And there are also department socials and away days which the interns are also invited to. One of my friends in tax in Manchester went hovercraft racing for the day!
