About You
This was such an amazing opportunity to get an insight into how the firm is run and what sectors there are and how they all collaborate with each other. I thoroughly enjoyed both days ... I pretty much had a smile on my face the whole time. It was very informative as well as a pleasant and happy experience!
I felt very valued throughout my time at EY. Everyone there was so friendly and everyone went out of their way to help us even when they didn't need to. At no point were we treated any differently to the staff and the atmosphere was very pleasant and lighthearted. And that made this experience really good and differentiated EY from other insight days as you honestly felt like you were a part of the company and were treated with a lot of respect; no one looked down on you and everyone was open to talking. It was very pleasant!
Throughout the 2 days we had a lot of talks about the sectors at EY and how everything is split and how it is all run and what sector does what. We also had plenty of networking opportunities with people from broad areas of the business which was a really nice opportunity to get people's unbiased views of each sector and be able to figure out the pros and cons of each and see for myself which one I would possibly like to go into and so it as very informative.
It will allow me to finally be able to figure out which sector I want to go into and then be able to tailor my degree modules to that specific sector in order to allow me to excel once I leave university if I am able to pursue that sector. It also allowed me to see what my skill sets are and how I can use that to my advantage to do really well, especially with learning at university and also be able to work on any downfalls that I may have.
The Company
It was very structured. Everthing was on time and we were told of what was happening on each day way before. Everything was very well organised and on time and it covered everything from us learning about the firm to us getting stuck in to a task to mimic what the firm does. It was a good balance of both being involved directly and being spoken to about the firm from friendly and informative people. Everything was laid out in terms of time with regards to breaks and lunch and it all ran very smoothly, which I would say was down to the really good staff and people at EY.
Honestly, one of my favourite things I've done. I'm so glad that I had the privilege to be able to get onto this programme because it has not only allowed me to have a clearer vision and idea of what kind of career I would like to get into in the future but it has also allowed me to know myself a lot better and meet really cool and friendly people. Honestly enjoyed the experience a lot and would definitely recommend it to others ... EY is a really nice firm!
They had a session where we got to learn about ourselves and see what our specific traits are that allow us to excel and what can bring us down and this was a very good way to learn about ourselves and see how we can develop. Followed by that was a case study session where we got to put our skills to the test and kind of reenact what the firm does and see if we could use our skills to do well and that was a great way to develop ourselves and was a form of personal training. I would have liked though if we could have placed more emphasis on this and maybe have done more of this as I felt that this was both really interesting and really important.
It made me realise that if I was to have a job at EY it would be a really pleasant thing. Apart from the workload, it is a really flexible firm in terms of tailoring to your needs and allowing you to excel. The people that you'd work with are really friendly and everyone gives you so much help. Also they really push you to make your ideas work and want you to pursue any good ideas or thoughts that you may have which is nice ... all in all it would be a pleasant experience and I probably wouldn't want to leave.
Very much! Through the many networking opportunities and just through being in the building, everyone was so friendly and it was so nice to be in such a place where you are treated with so much respect and everyone is so friendly. The vibe and atmosphere is really happy and upbeat which adds to their pleasant and fun culture.
We had quite a few talks from people of the different departments and that was really useful in getting insight knowledge for each sector and being able to figure out which one would be the best for me. The networking opportunities also allowed me to gain further knowledge too about which sector ad career path would be the best for me.
Everything Else
You do not get paid for this insight but you can be reimbursed depending on where you are travelling from. I did not need to be reimbursed because I was living nearby so it was fine but if you are travelling from far they pay for your overnight accommodation in a nearby hotel which is good for people travelling from afar.
There were many! We had a networking lunch and a networking dinner and as well as that we had lots of opportunities to ask people questions after their talks.
They were really nice. Normally networking lunches can be hard but it was actually really pleasant and easy and the people we networked with were actually so friendly and nice that it made it a really pleasant opportunity. They were also very open which made it a very informative and valuable opportunity.
Yes! I learnt that there are a lot of socities and socials at EY as they promote good working relationships which I think is really important and it's really nice and also adds to EY's culture.
Definitely! It is a very useful insight, especially if you're unsure what career path you want to follow but you know that you want to get into either tax or assurance.
