About You
The spring insight week is really useful. I have gained a deep understanding of each divisions, and I have a clear idea of which department I am most interested in.
The insight programme is not focusing on the skills development.
The Company
The presenters and HR are really approachable and friendly.
It has a skills session on presentation skill which I found really useful. The case study workshop is also highly valuable, it increases my understanding towards the industry as it stimulates my creativity and critical thinking, also enhance my team working and communication skills. After the case study, everyone was compulsory to present in front of everyone, which is a really good practice.
Definitely. Employees (different grades, from graduates to partner) from different divisions of the firm (including advisory, tax and audit) have came and give presentations. It was really useful to have known their typical work day and their own experience. Their presentations was clear and was structured.
By talking to the employees in the company, I found out that the people there were really friendly and helpful, they are more than happy to share their own experience with us and answer all our questions. Also, the hosts have presented the company's values to us. I have known the company much better in the insight week.
Highly valuable. As I mentioned, people from different divisions had share their experience and explained their duties in different roles. Hence, I have a clear picture of what exactly does each department do and the difference between tax, audit and advisory. I can now choose my preferred path according to my ability and interests.
Everything Else
I can claim up to £50 travelling expenses per day. However, I have spent more than £100 on hotel in 2 days and it would be nice if I can claim that expenses as well. The fund provided by KPMG didn't fully cover my expenses. But it provides us free breakfast and lunch with unlimited drinks.
There was a 2 hours networking session on the first day. People from different departments has came for the networking session and they are really friendly. Also, there's the Q and A session after each person's presentation. I would say there're sufficient opportunities to talk to the employees. I found this part extremely beneficial for me and it's the best way to understand what it's really like to work in that company.
The networking session was in good atmosphere and the staffs attended were really nice and professional. However, I would say the ratio of staffs and students was quite low. Often 5-6 students are talking with the same employee at the same time, and most of them were from the same department. It will be nice if more staffs from different divisions can engage in the session.
Yes. The host has explain the 6 days off (on top of holidays) for each employee to do volunteer work. Also the social events hold by the company. By talking with the employees in the networking session and Q and A sessions, I have also know more about the extra activities provided by the firm. It's good to know they have a healthy work-life balance.
Yes. The insight week is really valuable. It is good to meet the professionals working in the firm, as well as meeting other students who are also interested in working in KPMG. Moreover, the insight really gave and overview of the firm and the responsibilities of each divisions. The fast track to summer internship is highly attractive.
