About You
I had a really positive experience at the Taylor Wessing Insight Day. The day was really varied so I was never bored and the timetable given out at the start of the day was a good idea as it enabled us to see what we were doing throughout the day. We were also given lots of breaks which were helpful as we had time to digest all the information that was given to us. I also felt that there was a good mixture between presentations, chances to ask questions of our own and also a group activity so we could 'do' rather than listen all the time.
I felt completely valued at the firm as all the staff and trainees were really friendly and were more than happy to answer my questions. Also, the fact that we had lunch with the trainees and later a drinks reception made me feel like 'one of the firm' and very valued. At no point did I feel like an outsider.
I feel that we received a lot of guidance and support. As I previously mentioned, the timetable we were given at the start of the day showed us what we were supposed to be doing and helped to guide us through the day. We also had trainees on hand when we did the business task in small groups so I found that there was support there whenever I needed it.
The Insight Day was incredibly helpful in this area. I think that the application and interview process presentations were both invaluable in helping us to understand how to make the best of ourselves when we apply to Taylor Wessing. It also gave us more of an idea of what Taylor Wessing looks for in a trainee beyond the generic criteria that you can find on the website. Maybe, individual feedback on our applications for the Insight Day would have been helpful so we can see what to improve before submitting an application for a vacation scheme.
The Company
As previously mentioned, the Insight was incredibly well structured. The timetable was fabulous to give us an overview of what we would get up to during the day. There were plenty of breaks between presentations so we were able to gather our thoughts and write things down whilst they were still fresh in our minds. The wind down drinks was also a nice, sociable end to the day.
I absolutely loved the atmosphere at Taylor Wessing! All the trainees and partners were so lovely and friendly and everyone seemed very keen for you to ask them questions, no matter how silly you might think they are. The lunch and the drinks with partners and trainees helped us to chat to them in a more informal environment, this enabled me to ask questions which I may not have wanted to ask in front of everybody.
I think that Taylor Wessing has invested in us to a large extent as they screened us for the Insight Day itself. I think this is really helpful as it enables us to see what kind of questions they ask on application forms and gives us experience on how to sell ourselves to the firm. The day itself was action packed and obviously took a lot of organising so I would say that this reflected the high levels of investment that Taylor Wessing has in us.
The Insight Day really helped me in this area as I was able to see the firm for myself and get a feel of what the culture of the firm is like which I simply would not have been able to do just by going on the website. Also, I was able to chat to trainees about what their average day is like and ask them what it is really like to be a trainee at Taylor Wessing.
As previously mentioned, I found that I was able to really come away from the insight day having a better understanding of the culture at Taylor Wessing. This was because we met with trainees and partners who were able to offer a unique insight into what it is like to work for the firm. A tour of the offices would have been nice to be able to further understand the culture and working environment.
The day was helpful but I already knew before attending that I wanted to be a solicitor. Having attended the Insight Day, it made me more certain that this was the path I wanted to take and that Taylor Wessing was the firm for me as everyone seemed rally friendly and I liked the feel of being there.
Everything Else
There were opportunities to talk to partners and trainees which was sufficient. There were also opportunities to network informally with the other students on the Insight Day which was helpful as we could all be working together one day!
I think the networking and social opportunities were really great, the buffet lunch meant that we could talk to trainees informally and also move around and talk to lots of different trainees rather than having to sit at a table and only getting the chance to talk to one.
Not really, but had I asked I am sure I would have been adequately informed.
Definitely! I had a really good time on the day and the skills that I learnt regarding my application and also commercial awareness skills through the business task cannot be achieved in any other way as they do not teach you things like this at university.
