About You
The Taylor Wessing first year insight day was extremely enjoyable. It was a relaxed day and everyone was very friendly and welcoming, but at the same time the day was also tremendously informative and helpful. We were given a lot of useful information about making a successful future vacation scheme/training contract application, what the assessment day entails, what makes Taylor Wessing unique and what the firm looks for in graduates. However, the most enjoyable aspect of the day was simply interacting with people at the firm and learning through first-hand experience about Taylor Wessing's collaborative, forward-thinking and friendly culture.
The insight was only a day long and so naturally there was a limit to the responsibility we could be given; instead, the day was mainly focused on giving us a glimpse into life at the firm and improving our knowledge and skills for future applications to the firm. However, I definitely felt as though Taylor Wessing valued everyone taking part on the insight day and actively wanted to help us to make successful future applications to the firm.
The guidance and support received during the insight day was very good. The graduate recruitment team were very clear on what they were looking for in graduates and told us how we could make ourselves stand out in our applications and hopefully during assessment days too. Members of the graduate recruitment team and also the senior partner were also very clear in telling us about the firm (i.e. the main practice areas) and also the firm's vision, direction and future. The trainees we spoke to were also very helpful in suggesting how to approach applying to Taylor Wessing, and were able to give opinions from their own experiences.
During the afternoon business game/competition session, I definitely developed certain skills. I think I improved my ability to work in a team and communicate effectively with people I had just met. I also think I developed my understanding of the business/commercial world, which will be invaluable in pursuing a career as a commercial solicitor.
The Company
The insight day was well structured, with the morning being based around a series of different talks from the senior partner and graduate recruitment, where any questions could be asked. This was followed by a relaxed lunch with trainees and then a business game/competition in order to build commercial awareness/teamwork skills. The day was also finished with a drinks reception with trainees, members of the graduate recruitment team and some partners.
The atmosphere at Taylor Wessing during the insight day was extremely friendly, relaxed and fun. Everyone was incredibly welcoming and wanted us to ask questions and find out as much as possible about the firm and future application processes.
The best way to try and understand what it would be like to have a full time role with Taylor Wessing was by engaging with their currently employees, namely the trainees. We had plenty of opportunities to do this and I think this gave me a really good insight into what life at Taylor Wessing would be like.
I think the insight day was invaluable in understanding the culture of Taylor Wessing. Spending a day in the firm and amongst Taylor Wessing employees was a great way of grasping the culture of the firm. It struck me that Taylor Wessing was an exciting and forward-thinking place to work, full of hardworking and friendly team players.
The content of the day confirmed my desire to pursue a career as a commercial solicitor at a top firm, such as, Taylor Wessing. The day reassured me that I was making the right decision and that a career at Taylor Wessing would be extremely fulfilling and enjoyable.
Everything Else
Travel expenses were reimbursed.
During the day we had plenty of opportunities to network with trainees, who were extremely happy to give us advice and answer any general questions we had about being a trainee and how they got there and also specific questions about the firm and their training contract.
We had the opportunity to network with trainees over a relaxed lunch and ask any questions we had and then there was also a drinks networking event at the end of the day with members of the graduate recruitment team, some partners and trainees.
I would absolutely recommend this insight day to any first year who wants to pursue a career in commercial law and wants to find out more about working at Taylor Wessing.
