About You
It was highly enjoyable, I feel that I have learned a lot about the industry as a whole and the company itself. There were a range of different programs, both passive and more active ones, including talks, workshops, work shadowing and preparation for the assessment center. All in all it was one of the best weeks in this year so far.
There were around 70 of us, so individual attention was not given to us at all times, but there were definitely opportunities for everyone to shine. It was also repeatedly stressed that by participating in the Spring Week, we are already highly selected and the firm places great hope in us to progress on to the summer internship and then to a graduate placement.
There were times when I have felt that financial terms and concepts were not clearly explained, so I have felt a bit lost. But there was always opportunity after the talks to pose our questions and the staff were approachable and very nice during the week. I felt comfortable asking questions and asking for clarifications.
Finance is not directly related to my degree, but I felt that a deeper understanding of the banking system would definitely come to be useful. In terms of beyond my degree, we participated in both group and individual exercises, for example giving presentations and interviews at the assessment center. I feel that my experiences this week will be incredibly helpful in the future in applying to internships and any kind of job.
The Company
It was very well structured, I always knew where to go and what was about to happen next. A program guide for the whole week was provided, so it was great.
Everyone was really interested, respectful and enthusiastic. I had a great time, it was great to talk to the employees of the company and the other participants. Everyone was really kind and approachable.
There was little room for personal development as there was a large number of participants, but as a whole there were lot of opportunities to develop our skills.
During my work shadowing, I only got to speak with different employees, but not actually see them work. However, we were shown around the different departments and got to ask many questions from employees about their everyday lives, therefore I feel that it still gave me an understanding to some extent.
Definitely, the company culture was something that was emphasized again and again in almost all of the talks, and almost every employee mentioned it. I also felt their values reflected in their behavior.
It was immensely helpful in my opinion, as it made me really consider for the first time the realities of working for a corporation, versus other possibilities. It also made my reflect on my skills and interests, therefore I feel that it helped me a great deal in deciding my future career route.
Everything Else
There were networking events included in the program, at least one every day, therefore I felt that networking was a huge part of my week. In all breaks the participants were put together and we could also network with each other, and some employees who were with us.
There was only one social event, on Monday, but I didn't feel like we needed more, perhaps one at the end would have been good.
There was a panel about the different community involvements of the firm, for example volunteering activities, but it was really short compared to other talks. I would have been interested in hearing more about outside activities.
