About You
I thoroughly enjoyed the week and I gained an insight into the culture of UBS and every division of the bank through a mix of workshops, networking and work shadowing which is exactly what I expected from an Insights Program. I would definitely recommend UBS Insights to anyone considering a career in finance.
I definitely felt valued by UBS. I had plenty opportunities to ask questions about the culture and specific divisions of UBS through the workshops and networking sessions, allowing me to participate in discussion. Members of staff were very kind and I never felt treated any differently for being an intern.
The program was managed very well. We were given a handbook with a timetable telling us exactly where we were supposed to be and what we were doing at each given time. Members of staff were also always willing to guide me when I was in the wrong place. The handbook also included supporting slides for each workshop which was very useful when taking notes.
We were given an introduction into UBS and current Economics, then we participated in workshops from every single division in the bank. The initial talks about Economics were very technical and quite difficult to understand, especially for a student from a non-financial degree background. The group presentation on the final day prepared us well for the upcoming Assessment Centre at the end of the week.
The Company
The insight was structured very well. We were given an introduction into UBS and current Economics, then we participated in workshops from every single division in the bank. Furthermore, we were given further insight into the specific business area we had initially chosen, through work shadowing. Finally, the group presentation on the final day prepared us well for the upcoming Assessment Centre at the end of the week.
The general atmosphere was very relaxed yet still very professional. The initial social event allowed interns to meet one another in an informal environment. By the second day I had met every single intern. I also felt quite relaxed throughout the program, and I didn't feel like I was being assessed.
The work shadowing enabled me to gain an insight into the day to day life of a banker. I was also exposed to a previous deal, enabling me to gain a full understanding of the role of Corporate Client Solutions and a specific sector team. Consequently, I developed an understanding of what it would be like to have a full time Corporate Client Solutions role, within UBS.
The content of the program was very valuable in helping me decide my future career path. I was able to work shadow an employee in my chosen business area. However, I was also able to participate in workshops in every single division to allow me to understand what each role involves. This strengthened my decision that a role in Corporate Client Solutions was correct for me.
Everything Else
I live in London, so no extra reimbursement was necessary.
There were many opportunities to network with employees. After every talk, we had the chance to ask questions and speak one on one with the person giving the talk. We also had a networking luck with recent graduates who knew exactly what we were going through and gave us advice on the upcoming Assessment Centre and insight to our chosen role. Furthermore, there was a speed networking activity which made it possible for us to ask questions to people from any division.
We were given a talk about the extra activities employees can participate in outside of work. For example, employees can get involved with UBS Community Affairs to volunteer in the local community. Many employees are involved in the Bridge Academy in Hackney, and we were even presented with small books for young children, which were created by young children assisted by employees, explaining what investment banking means.
I would definitely recommend UBS Insights to a friend. I thoroughly enjoyed participating in all the activities throughout the week. There was a great balance between interactive workshops and networking, helping me decide that Corporate Client Solutions is the correct career pathway for myself. I also gained many friends during the program who I intend to keep in contact with.
