About You
I thought the first year insight programme was really informative and enjoyable. I was unsure of the roles of the different departments on the firm, but now I am much more clearer and what roles KPMG offers, and also about which role I would like to go into. I also thought that everybody was really friendly and approachable, and the atmosphere was welcoming.
I felt valued during the entire duration of the programme. I feel that everyone treated us in a very welcoming manner. I also feel that in no way were we treated as less qualified, or less able than those who worked at the firm. I enjoyed the fact that we were really well looked after.
I received a lot of guidance during the insight programme. The talks that were given by colleagues from different parts of the company were not only informative, but also engaging. I found the talks really useful, as before this insight programme, I was not really aware of the distinctions between the different departments.
The skills I received will really help me in my future studies because I developed more confidence by presenting in front of seniors within the company. The information will help my further in my career because I know have an idea of the different departments in the firm, and can therefore choose which area I would like to specialise in.
The Company
The insight programme was really well structured. There was much to do, and yet no activity was rushed. I feel that each activity was allocated enough time; the activity did not feel as if it was too long, and at the same time it did not feel time pressured. I also feel that the start and finish times of each day of the programme were useful in giving a true feel of working at the office.
The atmosphere during the programme was very friendly and welcoming. Everyone was willing to give guidance, and answer any questions that we had. There was also much to keep busy with. I feel that we were well looked after, and still treated as university students, instead of being treated as children.
The firm really invested in us, as they took out the time to give us talks about their daily routines, as well as how they became part of the firm and how they feel about the work they do. I also feel the activities we completed during the 2 days of the insight programme were useful in developing key personal traits that will be useful in our futures careers, such as the networking event in the evening of the first day.
I think the insight programme really helped me understand what it would be like to work in the firm because we were given talks by several colleagues in different departments of the company. I now feel that I am able to make a decision based on these talks about which department I would like to train further and specialise in,
The insight day really helped me to understand the company culture because aside from talking to those who supervised our activities, we also had the opportunity to talk to colleagues from different departments if the firm during a networking event. This really gave us an idea of how people work within the firm, and the colleague relationship within the firm.
The content of the programme was really useful in helping me to decide my further career path because during both days of the insight programme, several colleagues form different departments if the firm gave us talks on their daily routine, and their work within the firm, as well as the entry routes into the career paths, and any additional tips on how to proceed with entering those specific specialities.
Everything Else
There were several opportunities to meet colleagues from different departments if the firm. During the evening of the first day, there was a specific networking programme, specially for us to interact and talk to and ask questions to colleagues from other departments. Also during talks from other colleagues, we were able to ask questions.
The networking events were really good because they were informal, which did not make the experience daunting jn any way. They were also enjoyable as it was a good experience to be able to meet new people, and ask about their experiences during their work at KPMG. It was also a useful opportunity to ask questions about particular career paths within the firm.
Yes we found out a lot about the opportunities that employees can get involved in outside of work, such as the fact that employees can volunteer and are given specific additional leave to complete this voluntary work. It was also nice to know that the firm encourages sports and has sports teams, as other social events where colleagues can get to know one another and meet new people.
I would definitely recommend this insight programme to a friend because it was a very relaxed atmosphere which us really important when in a such a big company. Also there were many activities planned out for us, which were challenging yet still allowed us to use our creativity and enhance our confidence.
