The Role
Some aspects of the job were good, it was a very laid back environment with a group of people in a similar age group. The work was interesting, dealing with people over the phone and closing sales. However the process was very long winded and repetitive. This also changed towards the end of the year where the sales interns had to take on the order management role meaning twice the work, there was very little training for this and a quick changeover period which led to a lot of mistakes. Also during the last few months suppliers were not paid on time which led to longer lead times and as a result did mess up some sales with demotivated staff further.
All the interns get along very well as do the full time staff, probably because of the similar age groups. However with management you really did feel that you were there just to keep costs down (due to the very poor wage)
There was a lot of support form my full time colleague, however i was lucky that i was with someone with a lot of experience in the industry and with the system. There are business develop managers who work there who do not have a clue what they are doing and leave the majority of the work to their intern. This resulted in a lot of stress for some of the interns.
Depending on who you are put with depends greatly on the amount of work you will receive, generally the more sales you business development manager the more work you will have to do, you also have your own sales to bring in, however if you have a weak colleague then you can be snowed under, again because some of the full time staff are not trained on the system properly and are very bad with their management skills. One thing that helped the year pass was that a there is a lot of time to mess around as the managers are often away leaving you unattended and even when they are there the office is very laid back.
There is a lot of responsibility in this role. I had my own clients and it was up to me to negotiate the prices with the client and suppliers. It would be worth mentioning that you have exactly the same responsibility and job as the full time staff, sometimes more as they will give you things to work on. The only difference is the title you have which is there to allow the low wage for interns. In short the placement is exactly like a full time job in the activities you undertake and the responsibility you have.

The Company
The general atmosphere was excellent within the office as everyone gets along very well. However targets are set unrealistically high, when the targets are not met you really get told about it, and the atmosphere is very low as a result.
The interview process was effective, however the interview and assessment day did give a false image of the company in terms of organisation.
Training was very bad, the system was not properly explained and the trainer was not always present.

From being an intern there is only really 1 step up and that would be to be the business development manager, however the roles are not different. The Culture
All the inters are really friendly and will socialise outside work.
Being so close to London it is really expensive. The fact the the pay is [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyPlacement Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] £75 a week means that after food is brought there is not a lot else you can do as you find yourself saving for a big night out. Maidenhead as a town is very dull and night-life really bad and it is too expensive to go outside maidenhead.
Lots of good bars, however for a night out there is only one club worth visiting.
As mentioned before maidenhead is a very dull town, there is a gym, cinema and bowling however lack of money really means you cannot do a lot.
