The Role
Really enjoyed the internship overall, however naturally there were some roles which I was shadowing that were less exciting and less suited to my interests.
With regards to my projects i felt really valued based on the fact they took my ideas and are putting them into practice. Sometimes with certain roles it was difficult to find things I could do due to the fact I did not have the training or knowledge to be doing certain things.
My managers were always available and they were really good at telling me who to speak to with regards to finding solutions to any issues I had faced. There was always someone available to give me support when it was needed so i couldn't ask for more on this front.
My project was good for keeping me busy when there were not other things to do, however sometimes it felt a little like they would get me to do my project rather than think of other things I could possibly do.
I had responsibility in the sense they would listen to me and use my ideas that I was contributing, however due to the level of knowledge needed I did not have much customer interaction and did more shadowing than actually doing the roles myself. This however did suit me as i wanted an overview of many roles rather than being trained to do one role and have lots of responsibility in it.
The skills I developed were generally more soft skills rather than actual training in the job. It gave me a good feel for how I would have to work in the industry and I learnt a lot about how I can improve myself in a working environment.
The Company
The atmosphere was relaxed and there were always people available to help me. It was however quite a focused environment rather than a sense of always working as a team.
The team organising the programme were excellent and the extra events they put on like days at the Head office and the induction days were really useful and informative. They were really good at getting back to you and really keen to make sure you were getting on fine with regular check ups to make sure things were as they should be.
There was not a great deal of training, but on the other hand they gave me exactly what I wanted from the internship, which was experiencing a broad view of commercial banking.
Company Parties/Events
Am currently waiting for them to get back to us.
The Culture
Regular events were organised both by the team running the internship as well as by the interns. As I was located away from London you can feel a little isolated however. When i was with the other interns there was a great social scene. Where I was located there were quite a few occassions where I was able to socialise with my colleagues which was nice.
Lived at home so was fine.
Average. London is accessible if you really want a better night out.
Was invited to play for the office's cricket team. Lots of intern social events.
