About You
It was really varied work, going to different types of sites, and being given different types and examples of work to do or to look at. The activities arranged by the graduate team were useful and also added to the overall view of the company, allowing an insight into how the departments can work together.
The work I was given to go through was very useful and wasn't just typical 'office work'. I felt that my opinion was valued even though obviously I do not have the knowledge of the employees. I was also asked to work alongside the team and assist with measurements and assessments.
I was made very welcome and felt that I could ask questions at any time without feeling that I was getting in the way. My mentor also kept providing information that both assisted in the work I carried out during the week, as well as being useful for my course in the future.
I had the chance to practice measuring and assessing a building, and this has added to what I have already learnt in my course, but not had the chance to really carry out. It has made me feel much more confident about what I am learning, and now the theory makes much more sense.
The Company
Everything was ready when I arrived for the insight, from logins, to being introduced to everyone in the office, and having things to look through and do. I went on 7 site visits over the course of the week, both within walking distance and two that covered almost a full day together.
It was very friendly and I was made to feel very welcome. I was given a lot of information about other departments in the office, and any questions I asked were answered in great detail. I felt that the office gets on very well together as a group. It is busy but does not seem to be too pressured.
I got a very good idea of the amount and type of work that I would be involved with. Examples of past work were shown to me, I visited current projects and was also shown plans and ideas for future works. I feel that I know what to expect should I come to work here in the future.
It really helped me to see how professional and well organised Savills is, compared to other jobs that I have had in the past. It is easy to see how much is invested into Graduate Employment, and that all members of staff are respected as well as being expected to uphold high standards.
It has confirmed that the course I am studying is the correct career path for me. I enjoyed all aspects of the work I encountered, it helped to back up my previous studies. It also helped me to see that there are other directions that I can take my studies towards.
Everything Else
The company offers expenses of up to £100 towards food, travel and accommodation during the week. This obviously helps in taking up the placement, and makes you feel that you aren't just there to carry out free work in the office. The expenses are paid directly into your bank account.
The opportunities during the placement consisted of drinks one evening with current graduates, as well as a lunch with Directors/Associate Directors etc. This helped provide a friendly atmosphere in which to ask questions and get to know other levels within the company. The food and drinks during these events were all provided.
Yes, everyone in the office is really friendly and helpful. The office facilities are excellent, and everything is ready for you from the minute you arrive. It is a really busy week, but offers an overall view of both the career path I want to pursue, as well as the other positions that are available within the company.
