About You
The week was tiring but useful and highly informative. Overall, it was a relatively enjoyable experience with the opportunity to meet lots of new people.
Employees with which I spoke were more than happy to answer any questions I had, making me feel valued. We also received free lunch and a networking dinner as part of the experience.
A lot of guidance. You meet with lots of people. I would say I spoke to >25 employees of the firm.
Skills I've acquired will not help me in my degree at all however will be invaluable for future job applications and internship applications. It was a steep learning curve for me this week however I feel I have gained a great insight in such a short period of time!
The Company
It was well planned out with opportunities organised for meeting employees/networking with other students/lecture style sessions describing division roles e.t.c
Serious and professional but pleasant also. Everyone was friendly, though as said already, the week was tiring.
They provided a lot of of opportunities to meet new people, including employees. We also had numerous sessions where again there were opportunities to ask questions and get feedback. People were generally willing to teach you anything you didnt understand which for me was a great help. I now have a far greater understanding of all aspects of how Bank of Americal Merrill Lynch works and the type of employees at the firm. We also received lunch each day and one free dinner with a light breakfast provided each morning.
We also had numerous sessions where there were opportunities to ask questions with current employees and even people who had recently just graduated and joined the firm via theyre graduate programme. There was also the opportunity to do some work shadowing which was insightful into what its like to work there every day and see the office properly.
A lot. I was not sure what to expect going into the company but have finished the week with a good idea of the profile of the typical people in each department, alongside the type of person they look to employ. It was interesting to see how different divisions typically considered of different character types.
Really helpful. I now have an idea of whether investment banking is for me or not which in turn will be helpful to me in future applications. There were interview panels at which you could propose specific questions alongside specific division talks aimed at giving an idea as to the day to day specifics of what they do. I have come away with a general concept of what many branches within the firm do.
Everything Else
I have yet to file for reimbursement from daily travel however they made it clear that they offer the service and as such I shall do so. I knew people who had been reimbursed return flights from around europe with expenses in the form of a hotel room also being paid for for the duration of the week. Overall, a generous company considering reviews I heard of other insight weeks.
Many, many, many opportunities! I'd almost run out of questions to ask by day three there was so much opportunity to talk to people all from different divisions!!!! From net working breakfasts to networking lunch to networking dinners alongside meeting other employees within many of the other sessions there was never a missed opportunity to ask the odd question!
Busy and tiring. Lots of people to meet and lots of questions to ask. Typically it was in the form of standing around and asking questions in a room, or alternatively talking to specific employees from specific divisions during organised sessions. The networking dinner was a more relaxed opportunity to ask more questions and chat with employees in general about their previous experiences and careers.
Yes. Bank of America Merrill Lynch have many outside activities and societies in which employees are encouraged to get involved and be active parts of. These range from volunteering ventures to volleyball and ex-military support groups. There was also a networking breakfast with members of such clubs where we could ask further questions an fin d out more about what they do.
Yes i would. The week has been very beneficial for me and has helped me gain a real grasp of how an investment bank works. I now have a far greater understanding not just of the business, but also how it is run and how each of the seperate divisions interact with each other. Its also been a great chance to meet like-minded students and find out more about their backgrounds/aspirations.
