About You
All of the staff made a good effort to make the week as enjoyable, interesting and insightful as possible. There was a good variety of tasks for us to do and there were few moments where it felt like I was wasting my time. However on the first two days of the week it did somewhat feel like the pace was a little slow.
The firm always made a strong effort to make myself feel valued. Seemingly there was no expense spared in making sure that we had the best week possible at the firm. They provided us with excellent accommodation, provided us with (normally) good food and also provides us with social events. Introducing us to people senior in the company also helped to do this.
Throughout the week there was constant feedback. This feedback will be invaluable for applying for future internships and jobs. We were given feedback on our interview skills, team skills and our presentation skills. Employees of the firm regularly gave us their opinions on the firm and the best route to take if one was to secure a career within the firm.
Whilst I learnt a lot of information and my skills were developed I don't think it will help me substantially in my degree. The particular skills I developed were team work, presentation skills, interview skills, leadership skills, analytical skills and much more. We also learnt much about the firm so that includes the company values and about its structure. We also learnt a lot about the specifics of the role we were in.
The Company
It was very very well structured. We were provided with an agenda at the start of the week and throughout we managed to roughly stick to it. The staff who were assisting with the week all seemed to know what was planned during the day and so this ensured everything ran smoothly. There was rarely a moment where I felt like I was wasting my time hence it was a very well structured week.
The atmosphere was fantastic. All of the staff assisting on the week were very friendly, encouraging and were always very willing to help and guide us. Furthermore all of the participants on the week were very driven and friendly and of a similar mindset to myself so overall, the general atmosphere was a fantastic one.
With the insight week being only a week there was only a limited amount which we could understand given the time frame. This is especially true given the breadth and depth of the role so it would be impossible to cover everything in just a week. Nonetheless, I still feel that staff did their best to explain to us the roles and tasks they perform and help us to understand.
The insight week helped us to strongly understand the company culture. The company culture was reinforced throughout the week with slogans such as "always do the right thing". Furthermore they gave us a tour of their campus and showed us various aspects of the site that helped us to understand the culture of the firm. He culture of the firm is very much positive.
The content of the week was relatively helpful in deciding my future career path. As mentioned before however, given the limited timespan of the week it becomes somewhat difficult for me to make a firm decision based on the insight week for my further career path. Nonetheless the insight week certainly helped me to understand more roles within the company and has certainly bettered my ideas of my future career path.
Everything Else
Our travel was filly reimbursed and so was our hotel accommodation. This was particularly helpful from the firm because otherwise I would have been unable to afford to go on this spring insight week. Whilst we did have to pay for some of our food the firm generously provided us with a lot of food also. So overall I would say that we were reimbursed adequately for this experience.
There were many opportunities for networking through the week and meeting other employees of the company throughout the week. Networking was a large focus of the week and it provided us with ample opportunity to network. We managed to network with employees high up in the firm and it this have us a wonderful opportunity to network and a brilliant insight to the firm.
